I’m still loving nude nails but over the past few weeks I’ve increasingly ventured to the dark side, reaching for deeper autumnal hues and some sophisticated sparkle. Here are six I have on rotation:
ONE Mavala Mexico: This deep, blue-toned purple creme has just the tiniest amount of fuchsia microshimmer to add depth and dimension. I find Mavala polishes to be consistently good performers and I’m a big fan of the dinky wee bottles, too.
TWO Estee Lauder Black Turquoise: A smooth creme polish in a lovely dusky shade of blackened blue, this looks absolutely gorgeous on shorter nails (which, despite my best efforts, mine always are!). This little lovely is part of the recent Pure Colour Vivid Shine collection.
THREE Sally Hansen Gilded Lily: Glitter polish always makes an appearance in the run up to the festive season but this year it’s bigger than ever. No surprise there - glittery embellishment is one of the hottest catwalk trends of the season. This warm coppery gold is one of the loveliest I’ve seen; read more here.

FOUR Chanel Le Vernis in Malice: Part of Chanel’s gorgeous Christmas collection, this rich burgundy shimmer is absolutely beautiful and gives a really great finish – smooth and glossy, it’s perfect in two coats.
FIVE Avon NailWear Pro+ in Green Goddess: A shimmery, mossy, slightly olive-toned green with gold microshimmer, this is part of the recently released Artic Goddess collection. I don’t wear a lot of greens on my nails but this has won me over with its pretty, unusual shade and easy application.
SIX Sally Hansen Gem Crush in Big Money: Another gorgeous glitter, this champagne and lilac stunner is one of eight new glitter polishes from the new Gem Crush line. Look for these in your local chemist or department store now – they’re €8.95 a pop and they’re blingtastic!
What are you loving on your nails right now?
