Miss M emailed to say she has a big problem with her nails. They split and crack and one of them seems to start showing problems right from the nail bed. They're quite bumped and ridged as well.
Well when a nail starts to show problems from the nail bed there's some reason for it - damage to the finger (maybe you trapped your finger in a door/broke your finger?), a deeper problem then I can help you with probably. But because I know a bit about cosmetic fixes I can help you with that. A good manicurist can probably put you on the road to sorting out the problem for once and for all.
Your nail is starting to to ridge and split before it grows above your fingertips at all. So in this case I would treat it as I do any nail damage - and boy am I good at treating nails I damage myself - usually caused by my gel nail addiction. There are loads of good products out there to help strengthen and repair damage. Two of my favourites are Jessica Nails and Nailtiques. Go for the products that help to repair damaged nails. These have the strongest, most beneficial ingredients. But never choose anything with formaldehyde ugh (beware of Sally Hansen). Just think - that’s what they embalm bodies in...

Buff your nails. This will smooth out the ridges and make sure they don't catch or snag on anything, helping them to grow as long as possible. I love buffed nails - just try it, you'll be hooked! Read how to do it here.
Finally, always keep your nails covered with something - a base coat, polish, whatever. This gives them an extra layer of defence against knocks and bumps.
