In the same way that I know I can rely on Batiste for well-priced and effective dry shampoos, Topshop for my metallic nail polish fix, and Chanel for gorgeous, covetable luxuries that are so far out of my price range they might as well be on the moon, La Roche Posay are always my first port of call for broad spectrum facial sunscreens that provide UVA and UVB protection and suit my sensitive combination/oily skin.
Their new Anthelios AC SPF30 Matte Extreme Fluid for oily to acne-prone skin, €17.50, immediately had my attention with its promise of an effective double anti-shine action and long-lasting matte result (the initial blotting-like sebo-absorbing action comes courtesy of perlite, while longer-term sebum regulation is thanks to the active ingredient zinc gluconate.)
The brand are trying to encourage younger people to think about sun safety with this one and so the outer sleeve and the accompanying press kit are emblazoned with pictures of non-shiny, happy teenagers, but don't let that put you off: oily older skin that refuses to grow out of that awkward spot-prone phase will also appreciate its teen-friendly formulation. Anthelios AC SPF30 is a light non-greasy fluid that's easy to apply, absorbs quickly without blocking pores, and dries to a non-sticky, actually dry-touch finish.

On application it does leave the very faintest white cast on my skin, but I find that it's temporary and disappears after a few minutes when it's fully absorbed. It feels lighter and cleaner on my skin than any other sunscreen – including other products from the Anthelios range – and while it keeps oil at bay and hasn't caused me to breakout, it doesn't show up my dry patches. Oh, and I've had zero issues with applying make-up over it.
Thumbs up!
