6 Things To Bear In Mind When Vintage Shopping
Vintage shopping is becoming increasingly popular with both fashionistas and savvy shoppers alike.
Not only will you save yourself a few bob, you are also likely to find yourself some really great and stylish pieces.
Before you go vintage shopping though, there are a few things you need to consider to get the most out of your time.
The following dos and don'ts will really help you find the best bargain to add to your wardrobe and ensure you get the most out of your time.
1. Don’t expect too much
You might go into your favourite vintage or charity shop only to find absolutely nothing you like. Try not to get too disheartened, many of these shops rely on donations and while one day they might have nothing, others days they could be full of fabulous finds. Write down a list of shops near you that you could try, this way you will always have a backup if you don't find anything in the first shop.

2. Do know where to shop
Most of us just immediately just think charity when it comes to second-hand shopping. However, there are plenty of other places that you can find a really great piece. For example, there are specific vintage clothes store, car boot sales and even local buy and sell Facebook pages. You might even find used clothes swaps nearby.
3. Don’t miss out on a good deal
If you see something you might want then pick it up and carry it around the store with you until you decide. It is most likely the only one there and if it caught your eye it will probably catch someone else’s too. You can always put it back if you decide against it later.
4. Do know when to haggle
Haggling is one of the best ways to get a deal when vintage shopping but you need to know when is appropriate. Charity shops are less likely to accept it, and some vintage stores can be hit and miss when it comes to haggling. However, car boot sales and buy and sell pages are great places to make an offer and see if you can get a bit off the price.
5. Don’t forget about quality
It can be easy to get carried away when you see low prices but don’t forget to check out things like the quality of material and even spellings on designer brands (to make sure they are legitimate).
6. Do share the love
Donate that leather jacket you've had in the wardrobe for the last ten years to a charity or sell some old stuff you never wear. Other people will be glad of the bargain and you can make a bit of extra cash.
