Leather Love: How to Rock This Season's Hottest Trend

Winter weather brings out the trends that keep your toes toasty. Think chunky boots, warm coats and fabulous fabrics like faux fur and this season’s darling, leather. And this time there is more to it than just the usual black biker jacket.

Move over Hell’s Angels, the leather skirt is the current queen of both couture collections and high street picks.

Every type and cut of skirt are represented in the line up. Skater, midi, pencil, pleated, A-line, mini, laser-cut - you name it, you can find it in leather this season.

It certainly isn’t a cheap material but the longevity of the piece makes up for it, real leather ages beautifully.

If your budget doesn’t stretch to the real thing, there are some great faux leather or PU (polyurethane) choices out there that do a good job of mimicking the original.

Celebrities have long loved the chic silhouette of leather. But this season they have really embraced the trend, showcasing the different lengths and colours on offer.

And the trend isn’t going anywhere in a hurry. Spring/Summer ’14 collections will move towards a softer palette - think paler colours, pearlescent leather and printed pieces.

There was a worrying time a few years ago when men started embracing leather skirts but thankfully this trend is not on the table for Autumn/Winter ’13. I think Kanye has given his to the missus.

I love this dominant and domineering trend. I think it makes everyone look a smidgen cooler, a little bit urban and rebellious. And double the fashionista points if you can pull off double leather.

Will you be making space in your wardrobe for leather this winter? Or is it a bit too punk for your liking and you’ll be looking elsewhere for winter inspiration?
