Watch: 100 years of high heels in less than three minutes
High heels have changed a hell of a lot since they were first designed way back in the 13th century. The first high-heeled shoes were basically stilts and were a status symbol. If you couldn't walk in your shoes, you must have been poor.
These days, high heels are for everyone. If you can't walk in them, you just get a lift from place to place and bring a spare pair of flats in your bag. Heels have power. They lengthen the leg, give you an extra bit of height and complete a fancy outfit. Or, they make a casual outfit.
As Marilyn Monroe said, "I don’t know who invented the high heel, but women owe him a lot."
