Who Rules The Roost in Your House?
There's hardly a house in Ireland that at some stage hasn't had a domestic over who's doing the chores more often, and a new survey has finally revealed what the statistics behind it are (i.e. who's right and who's wrong).
Commissioned as part of Stork’s Easter Baking Campaign, which is aiming to get Irish people baking up a storm for their loved ones over the Easter period, this new survey asked Irish men and women what annoyed them most about what the opposite sex in the kitchen, as well as what chores they felt that they did more often, and the results were somewhat surprising. Somewhat. Some of the stand out findings were:
- 90% of women can bake versus 60% of males (Psst, if you want to start him out on an easy baking treat see Catherine and Suzanne's brill recipe here!)
- 88% of women can sew on a button versus 54% of males
- 62% of women can knit versus just 4% of males
- 84% of men can change a car tyre versus 35% of females
- 75% of men feel confident cooking a Sunday roast
- When asked what annoyed them most about the opposite sex using the kitchen, 'not cleaning up properly' was the biggest gripe for 4 out of 10 Irish adults.
- Men most annoyed by 'backseat cooking' from their partners (23%) and partners getting overly stressed while cooking or baking (20%)
- Women were most irritated by the lack of gratefulness shown by their male partners for them doing the cooking! (25%)
- Donal Skehan was rated Irish women's top crumpet (38%), sultry Nigella Lawson was Irish men's top rated kitchen goddess (46%)

So there you have it folks, instead of doing all that backseat cooking, you'd be better off washing up a few dishes and lending a hand properly. Not that we're bitter about it, or anything...
So, who's the boss in your kitchen? And sitting room and bathroom...
