It's the bleakest most horrible vision of a post Apocalytic future ever.  The loneliness  the sense of loss and the chilling creepiness (especially since everyone is periodically stuck in the deep freeze for hundreds of years), completely isolated from everyone and everything they love. Buried underground with the world destroyed by nuclear bombs.

This is actually my worst nightmare.  But yet I couldn't stop reading.   The Wool and Silo trilogies by Hugh Howey are the scariest bloody pieces of fiction I've read in yonks and word is that Ridley Scott is developing them into films.

Well guess what?  I'll be first in the queue to scare the life out of myself some more when the films come out.

But why do we do this to ourselves?  Why is it so enjoyable to scare the living daylights out of ourselves with horror and science fiction?

From  Halloween, the Blair Witch Project, to the Friday the 13th franchise and early Stephen King like The Shining, horror has always been a sure fire winner with the public.  We just can't get enough of it.
