Science Speaks: The Lady In Red Gets the Guy
It seems that Chris de Burgh was on the mark when he wrote 'Lady in Red'...
According to findings from The City University of New York, men find women wearing red, even something as simple as an accessory, to be more attractive. The findings were published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, and it suggested that it could be as a result of the fact that the colour red is associated with sexual attraction.
So that's why Jessica Rabbit was such a hit.
"Recent evidence suggests that coloration may serve a purpose in human mating, as female sexual excitement is associated with reddening of the cheeks, neck, and chest", the report stated, which is something that heterosexual men are particularly sensitive to. The research looked at women both wearing red and pictured on red backgrounds, both of which the subjects found to be more attractive.

The study also showed that "women are more likely to wear red than other colors when they anticipate meeting attractive, but not unattractive, men."
Do you find yourself reaching for the red dress when going on a date? Have you automatically dressed yourself in black when you've been set up with someone you don't think you'll be keen on? Science is fascinating, no?
