Rihanna's 'Humanitarian of the Year' speech at Harvard was both badass and inspiring
The other day, it was announced that Rihanna was the recipient of a 'Humanitarian Award' from Harvard University.
The pop star was given the award for her philanthropic work in her native Barbados, including the foundation of a number of charities.
Last night, she received the award and her speech - which began with her sassily saying: "So I made it to Harvard. Never thought I'd be able to say that in my life, but it feels good" - was pretty darned inspiring as she spoke about always having an urge to help people, from when she was a kid.
She also said: "All you need to do is help one person, expecting nothing in return. To me, that is a humanitarian. What that little girl watching those commercials didn't know is that you don't have to be rich to be a humanitarian, you don't have to be rich to help somebody. You don't have to be famous, you don't even have to be college educated. But it starts with your neighbor... you just do whatever you can to help in any way that you can."

So not only is she a badass singer, she's a pretty good person, too.
