You might be able to see the Northern Lights this weekend! In Ireland!
Aurora Borealis. At this time of year. Localised entirely above Ireland. Yes, you can see it. Possibly.
Astronomy Ireland are reporting that the largest explosion of solar radiation in a decade means that the Northern Lights will be visible over Ireland this weekend - provided the weather stays clear. For those at there that don't know what aurora borealis is, it's caused when charged particles emitted from the sun during a solar flare penetrate the earth's magnetic shield and collide with atoms and molecules in our atmosphere. These collisions result in countless little bursts of light, called photons, which make up the aurora.
Science, people.

The best place to see the Northern Lights is likely to be either in rural locations and will last - hopefully - until Sunday evening. If you get some pictures, send them in so we can ogle at your photography skills!
