Kiefer Sutherland praises Julia Roberts for calling off their wedding
If you were knocking around back in the early nineties, you'll remember that Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland were one of Hollywood's It couples. No Brangelina mind, but close enough.
Julia was fresh off the back of her breakout role in Pretty Woman, which catapulted her to fame just as she went on to the movie Flatliners, where she met Sutherland, whose star was also on the rise.
The pair quickly fell in love and made plans to marry the following summer. However, just days before what was set to be the "wedding of the decade", the then 23-year-old Roberts famously called it off. At the time there were rumours that Kiefer was drinking a lot and may or may not have spent some time with a go-go dancer named Raven, in 'research for a role'. Ahem.
Roberts then spent what would have been her wedding day with her friend and Kiefer's Lost Boys co-star Jason Patric, who she jetted off to Ireland (yep, here!) to escape the media circus.
Seriously, it all sounds like a... Julia Roberts movie.

It seems that time has healed all wounds for Sutherland, though. In an interview with People magazine recently, he said that, "it took a lot of courage" for Roberts to call off their wedding.
"I think she was being realistic for herself and I think that's much better. I think it's hard to explain the pressure," the actor said. "We were young and we were both very much in love and we had decided that we wanted to get married.
"She was arguably the most famous woman in the world and this wedding that was supposed to be something between the two of us became something so big," he continued.
"It wasn't what she wanted to do in the end and I think it took a lot of courage, in amongst all that other stuff, to be able to say, 'I can't do this'. And I'm gonna leave it at that."
Roberts had a brief relationship with Jason Patric before going on to marry country singer Lyle Lovett in 1993. The pair split in 1995. The actress then went on to tie the knot with cameraman Danny Moder in 2002 and they have three children together.

In the meantime, Sutherland married Kelly Winn in 1996. Although they separated in 1999, their divorce wasn't finalised until 2008.
It does look like he and Jason Patric and have built bridges over the years, though.
Hugging it out.
All's well that ends well.
It was just one gigantic storm in a very nineties tea-cup.
