Everyone's talking about Meryl Streep's tearful anti-Trump speech at Golden Globes
Unsurprisingly, Donald Trump was a frequent target at last night's Golden Globes by pretty much everyone on stage.
While Hugh Laurie used his razor-sharp wit to thank everyone at "probably the last ever Golden Globes", Meryl Streep used her acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Award to take a good, hard swing at Donald Trump's presidency.
In her six-minute speech, Streep said that if Trump has his way and drives out foreign people and outsiders from Hollywood, "you'll have nothing to watch except football and MMA, and that's not the arts." That part of the speech drew the loudest cheers of the night, unsurprisingly.
Streep continued on, calling out Trump's on-stage mocking of journalist Serge Kovaleski, who suffers from arthrogryposis, before reflecting on the nature of their work and its privileges. Donald Trump, when questioned by the New York Times about Streep's comments and the night in general, replied that he wasn't surprised that he was attacked "by liberal movie people," and then claimed that he wasn't watching the show.
Here's the speech in full. Take a look.
However, it seems the US President elect isn't too bothered about it as he shrugged Streep's criticisms off when asked about it by The New York Times.

Trump dismissed Streep as a "Hillary lover" and said that he was "not surprised" to hear that "liberal movie people" were denouncing his past actions.
The main criticism of Trump in Streep's speech focused on the now infamous moment in which he appeared to mock a disabled journalist at a rally. However, Trump has re-interpreted that event and is claiming that he never mocked the reporter.
“I was never mocking anyone," Trump told the NY Times. “I was calling into question a reporter who had gotten nervous because he had changed his story."
“People keep saying I intended to mock the reporter’s disability, as if Meryl Streep and others could read my mind, and I did no such thing.”
Trump also took the opportunity to assure the newspaper that he expects many celebrities to turn out for his inauguration on January 20th.
“We are going to have an unbelievable, perhaps record-setting turnout for the inauguration, and there will be plenty of movie and entertainment stars,” he said.

The rest of the celebrity world resoundingly praised Streep for using her time to shine a spotlight on the reality of a Trump presidency and what it means to their community and the world at large.
