Downton Abbey IS Finishing - But There's Some Good News For Fans
News came in yesterday that Downton Abbey will officially come to an end after its sixth season, although we have all been speculating as much this last while.
In a statement, executive producer Gareth Neame says: "Millions of people around the world have followed the journey of the Crawley family and those who serve them for the last five years.
"Inevitably there comes a time when all shows should end and Downton is no exception. We wanted to close the doors of Downton Abbey when it felt right.
"We can promise a final season full of all the usual drama and intrigue, but with the added excitement of discovering how and where they all end up."
The show's creator, Julian Fellowes added: "The Downton journey has been amazing for everyone aboard. People ask if we knew what was going to happen when we started to make the first series and the answer is that, of course, we had no idea.
"Exactly why the series had such an impact and reached so many people around the world, all nationalities, all ages, all types, I cannot begin to explain.
"But I do know how grateful we are to have been allowed this unique experience. I suspect the show will always be a principal marker in most of our careers as we set out from here, and if so, I consider that a blessing and a compliment."

However, for disappointed fans of the show, there is a silver lining to this as Nearne has said that they would be 'very interested' in a Downton movie.
'I can confirm that there have been rumours that there might be a Downton movie. Our position on that is that we would be very interested. It is definitely something that we're contemplating.
"It would be great fun to do. I think it would be a wonderful extension of everything people love about the TV show. But I can't confirm that it's definitely going to happen. It would take a lot of planning and thinking about. We shall see.'
Six seasons and a movie? Sounds about right to us!
While a spin-off also isn't off the table with Nearne saying; "There has again been endless speculation about this. There are no definite plans for a spin-off. [But] again, I can't rule this out."
What do you think, a spin-off and a movie, or should they leave it where it is?
