Bakery in NI Found Guilty Of Discrimination Over Gay Marriage Cake
Ashers Bakery has today been found guilty of discrimination after the owners refused to make a cake carrying a pro-marriage equality slogan.
Activist Gareth Lee had ordered the cake last May for a private function that would mark International Day Against Homophobia, but was refused by the family-owned bakery, despite having already taken payment on the order.
Karen MacArthur, founder and company director at the bakery, said that she initially accepted it in order to avoid any confrontation on the issue but "as a born-again Christian, knew she could not fulfil it".

The case was brought before the Belfast County Court, and the decision was taken in favour of Mr. Lee and The Northern Ireland Equality Commission, who brought the case forward on his behalf.
