Adele made Beyonce cry after she refused to accept Grammy for Album of the Year over her
By Beaut  | Feb 13, 2017

Adele swept the board at last night's Grammys, taking home awards in every category she was nominated in and becoming the first artist in history to win Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year twice in one year.

But besides all that, she proved that she really is a sounder, using her time at the mic and wins over Beyoncé to call out and celebrate her idol not once but twice.

First up, Adele won Song of the Year and was given the award by Celine Dion who she somehow made cry with merely a few words and a hug.

Adele then took home the award for Record of the Year, managing to make everyone laugh by telling them how she doesn't love her father (he left her and her mother when she was three so it's a long story) which is an achievement in itself, slyly confirmed she's married to Simon Konecki by referring to him as her "husband" and then pivoted to Beyoncé who she said she wants to be her mother.

Then the big moment and upset of the night came when Adele claimed Album of the Year, and having just walked off stage from collecting Record of the Year, a visibly shaken Adele returned to claim the top prize of the night.

While she thanked her team and noted how difficult the album was for her, she stopped halfway through to "Imma let you finish" herself by pointing out that her "idol" Beyoncé should have won the award and saying that she couldn't accept the Grammy. Cue tears everywhere.

In a rare post-win interview backstage, Adele said that a piece of her "died" when Beyoncé didn't win for 'Lemonade',

"I spoke to her before just to let her know how honored and privileged I felt to be nominated alongside her, and we spoke afterward as well and she was very gracious and humble, as always, as we've come to expect," Adele told the press. "And the reason I felt the need to say something is because my album of the year is Lemonade. She is my icon of my whole life."

"I felt like it was her time to win. What the fuck does she have to do to win album of the year? That's how I feel."

Beyoncé won Best Urban Contemporary Album and Best Music Video for 'Formation'.

Other winners on the night included Chance the Rapper, who bagged Best New Artist and Best Rap Album for his album 'Coloring Book' and Best Rap Performance for 'No Problem', while country artist Sturgill Simpson picked up several awards for his album 'A Sailor's Guide to Earth'.
