A Load of Hot Air? You Could Soon Charge Your iPhone From Air

The days of charging your iPhone may be over, as the boffins have gone and created a case that can charge your phone using the air around you.

Nikola Labs are the company that are making this rather grand claim and they're looking for funding for their revolutionary case on Kickstarter. According to their calculations, your device wastes as much as 90% of its energy on pushing out the ambient radio frequency needed for a mobile connection, like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE, but their case can harvest that energy and use it to charge the phone.

The case promises to recapture that lost energy, helping the battery to last up to 30% longer, and will do so passively, so that you're not lugging the weight of an extra battery around in the case.

The technology has been developed in conjunction with Ohio State University, and they hope to get it on the market within a year. It will start life on a Kickstarter page next month however, where it will cost $99 (€89). Something tells us there will be plenty of people willing to pay for it...

We know that there are those power bar contraptions available but while handy, they are still fairly cumbersome. With our handbags chock-a-friggin-block already this would certainly come in handy. To the future!
