Yellow Nails: Say Yay or Nay to Essence Sundancer

Yellow Nails: Say Yay or Nay to Essence Sundancer
By Beaut.ie  | Mar 28, 2011

Last time I painted my nails yellow I was about 13, and I thought I was the blimmin' business. This phase coincided with Marks and Spencer stocking a range of ridiculous makeup (in shades no one could actually, y'know, wear) in Pop Art-esque tins and cases, which I badgered the Beaut.ie parents for so much that they gave in and got me a pile of it for Christmas that year. I had no real idea how to use any of it, but hey, I loved the look of it.

Still haven't worked out the best way to use blue, orange and green shadows together and at this stage, that's probably for the best.

I had a bit of a flashback to that whole episode when we took a look at Chanel's forthcoming Mimosa polish. Cos it's Chanel, you just know this is gonna be the hot shade of the summer so I decided to get a bit of yellow-belly practice in early with a bottle of Essence Colour and Go polish in Sundancer which was knocking about in my samples box.

This is a lot more banana (in more ways than one) than Mimosa, which is a cooler yellow - and as far as I know, it's also got some sparkle. Sundancer is a creme finish and it's a pain in the arse - quite hard to work with, it took four - FOUR - coats for proper opacity. However, it also only costs about €1.99 so y'know, lets keep it all relative.

So, one of the biggest criticisms leveled at yellow is how awful it looks on a pale skintone. This is kind of true, and it does look better with a tan. So I decided to test Sundancer both ways. The first shot is on my au naturel hands and the second was taken after I flew to a Sunshine Destination for a couple of days* to quickly tan up. No, there is nothing I wouldn't do for you lot.

Have a gander at the pair and then take the poll below. Do you prefer one over the other?  Are they both gick on a stick? It's your a call - and let me know what you think in a comment too.
