Under the Radar: Make-up Brands We Think Deserve a Shout Out
As we all know, cosmetics are a multi-billion euro/pound/dollar industry with certain brands always taking center stage thanks to their humungous (haven't used that word in a long time!) budgets, so today I wanted to give a voice to some make-up brands that sometimes fly under the radar.
These are ones that I've come across through work, recommendations and or simply pottering through town so if you don't see any of your favourites or have one or two to add, give me a shout down in the comments.
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics: Known best for their lip tars, this vegan friendly brand is one I first heard about online and have been using for a couple of years now. The aforementioned lip tars are amazing and completely adaptable depending on whether you want a light stain right up to the glossiest, most pigmented coverage for lips.
Similarly the colour concentrated pigments give you the option of playing with the finish as you can mix them with anything from loose powder to vaseline or even a clear mascara to customise your look. (Prices start at €13, available online with cocktailcosmetics.co.uk)
Soap & Glory: Ok, so they aren't exactly a struggling or unknown brand but it's mainly their body products that get a lot of attention. I really like their make-up and it doesn't get nearly as much press.

My favourites in the collection include the Kick Ass Concealer, which comes with 2 shades and a little powder layer as well (€13.50), Show Good Face Foundation & Primer; a lovely, lightweight foundation that's perfect for every day wear (€14) and Smoulder Kohl (€7) which is really soft and as black they come.
Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics: Launched in Ireland a couple of years ago, Youngblood is definitely worth a look if you suffer from sensitivity, or if you ever feel your skin can't breathe under make-up as the formulas are created without talc, alcohol, mineral oil or parabens (you can read more about the ingredients here).
My favourite products within the collection are the Mineral Primer (€35) and Liquid Foundation (€37), both of which feel light as air to wear, oh and in case you wanted to know, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Alba are fans too. (Full list of stockists is on their Facebook page)
Ilia Beauty: Initially, it was the contemporary colours and sleek packaging which caught my eye but there's more to this brand than simply looking good as the products contain up to 85% certified organic ingredients too.
It’s hard to choose whether the nude shades or bright lip colours are more appealing but then again – I also love the Multi Sticks and mascara too. (Prices from €27.80, available with Misebeauty Dundalk or online).
Do you have any unsung heroes you like to add to the list?
