SS10 Hair Trends: The Faux Bob... And How To DIY It
Like the look of the softly curled, slightly messy '40s inspired bobs that were spotted at New York Fashion Week but reluctant to commit to the chop? Well, good news: the models who trotted down the Spring Summer 2010 runways for the likes of Costello Tagliapietra, Tuleh, and House of Holland sporting this hair hadn't actually had their locks lopped off. Instead, they were rocking faux bobs, a style of up-do long favoured by celebridees like Eva Longoria and Nicole Kidman when they fancy a commitment-free change from mid-length or long hair.
This time around, the faux bob is more about playing with texture and movement and less about perfectly coiffed curls. If you fancy trying your hand at recreating it at home, it's best to start with hair that's not freshly washed. However, you can take the slip out of just washed hair by popping in a little dry shampoo - this will add grip.
Create curls from just above the ears through to the ends of the hair using Velcro or hot rollers or curling tongs. Pin curls in place until cool. Divide hair into sections - two or three should be enough, depending on its thickness. Backcomb each section, using a bristle brush if you're after a candyfloss, Countess Markievicz texture. This will cause the hair to look somewhat shorter anyway, but tuck longer ends underneath and pin in place at the nape of the neck using kirby grips (dusted with hairspray if you need extra grip) to get the real faux bob effect. Shorter layers can be left loose for a less structured look.

Alternatively, if you feel that you need a bit of extra help keeping your locks in check, pull curled hair back into a loose ponytail and fan hair out into a bobbed shape before pinning the ends underneath.
