Sneaky Peek: Tom Ford Black Orchid Nail Colour!
"Oh GAWD", I thought when I got a look at this little lot yesterday and I was straight on to the press office hysterically asking could Beaut.ie run a preview on it. I'd heard the word previously that Tom Ford (who can do no wrong in my eyes) was going to add to his fragrance and lipstick lines with polish, and lo and behold, here comes his first foray.
Black Orchid Nail Colour is the first shade out of the bag for Handsome Tom and it's debuting in a limited edition collection alongside a compact containing a balm version of the eponymous fragrance. There's also a Black Orchid lip colour so you can do the whole lips 'n tips thing, but as we already know the excellent provenance of both his scents and his pout-adorners, in truth I am just wildly excited about the polish itself.
Black Orchid is one of those sultry blackened reds that Chanel Rouge Noir fans will go crazy for. Ultra shiny and long-wearing are the claims and the colour is inspired - of course - by black orchids.

This time around, in order to get your manicured talons on the polish you'll have to buy all three products as a set. But something tells me we'll be seeing a lot more lacquer where this came from available to buy solo, so if the price at €110 for the trio is too steep for your spend, then just hang on in there.
On price, keep in mind that Tom Ford is a luxury line. It's never cheap, but should you have the cash to indulge - or should you find someone to indulge for you - then this represents good value for this brand. A lipstick on its own is €45, for example, and using last Christmas' roller-ball fragrance at €45 as a barometer, that puts the value of the polish at around €20. I'd have a guess they'll go for more than that when they do become available to buy individually - so if you're a fan, then this is definitely one for 2010's Christmas list.
Find it at Harvey Nichols Dundrum from 4th October 2010 and Brown Thomas Dublin from 1st December 2010.
