Most UNwanted: Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle
Last year, browsing the nails selection in Boots, I wanted to get a new base coat, my Jessica Nails had run out. My nails were going through a difficult phase, they kept breaking - I wanted something to strengthen them. Would it be Nail Envy or... Sally Hansen? There were TONS of different SH products on the shelves, perhaps it had improved I thought. I liked the sound of the Nailgrowth Miracle, plus I had read some encouraging bits and pieces in magazines -it's won magazine awards.
It promises 30% longer nails in 5 days - guaranteed! It apparently has an exclusive protein complex to prompt fast nail growth for soft thin nails that just wont grow. And it had an encouraging list of ingredients - soy proteins, keratin, collagen and multivitamins. Mmm okay, I was decided. I hurried to the till to make my purchase.
Reader I have to tell you: my nails split and cracked, became brittle and dry. The skin around the nails, where the Nailgrowth Miracle had seeped, split and peeled and the skin became hard. It took weeks and a new bottle of nourishing Jessica Nails to repair the damage. The blurb on the Nailgrowth Miracle challenges you to dare to compare! Eh, okay I will then. It's worse then crap. It's a disaster.

Formaldehyde anyone? The problem with nail treatments is that they are quite often liberally laced with potentionally carcinogenic ingredients. Sally Hansen is a particularly bad offender. It has promised to remove all such dangerous chemicals from its products - DBP, toluene and formaldehyde. OPI, Essie and Orly are all offenders too (just as well I didn't buy the Nail Envy either then). Read more about it here on breastcancerfund.org.
