Foundation fails. No one is immune. They can creep up on anyone, even makeup veterans. We're revisiting some of the classic mistakes we've all made over the years.

Finding the perfect foundation is like trying to find the perfect pair of jeans. It's rarely a case of the first one you try being a perfect fit. Foundation fails can happen to anyone, even those who know their stuff. So, we thought we'd round up a few of the most common ways that a base, ends up looking... not so ace.

  • The Bad Recommendation

Your bestie, or favourite blogger/celebrity/social influencer has a brand new foundation that looks amazing. So you think, I'd like that too. After all, they swear by it! But somehow, what looks glowing and dewy on them, looks a shiny mess on you. Unfortunately, as we've all discovered one time or another, one size does not fit all.

  • Falling for the latest "it" foundation

I've yet to meet anyone that this hasn't happened to at least once. After all, it's so hard not to get distracted by new, shiny things, isn't it? The story usually goes: you are looking for your normal foundation. But what's this? Something new? That's better than everything that ever came before? I should take two, you say.
  • Buying without Trying
Ever brought home a foundation and then thought, hmm, that's not the colour it should be! It's natural to think that, if nine times out of 10 you're "Porcelain", then that's how it should always be. But it doesn't always work out that way. Sometimes Alabaster can be darker than Ivory, sometimes it's the other way around. It depends on the brand - and even then, there can be occasions where shades don't match between ranges either!
So, while you might be "Porcelain" in one formula, you could be "Warm Vanilla" in another. Basically, if you're considering switching up your base, be sure to always double check and match against your skin. It's a little annoying and time consuming, but better than having a foundation that doesn't work for you!
