FIGHT! Dior Jelly Lip Pen Vs Bourjois Colour Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick

FIGHT! Dior Jelly Lip Pen Vs Bourjois Colour Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick

Leaving aside fruity alcoholic beverages with umbrellas and straws, the one thing I love more than makeup is makeup in crayon form.

So it pleases me greatly that two of my favourite French brands have been getting lippy, with the inclusion of a chunky lip crayon with their summer collections. But at €10.49, the Bourjois crayon is less than half the price of Dior's at €24.50. Which one is best?

Looks wise, both are similar in packaging and design to the trailblazer in the lip crayon category, Clinique's Chubby Sticks. The Dior product comes in the brand's signature navy and silver and looks elegant, if a little more serious than a chubby lip crayon has any real business to be looking.

Bourjois is more playful, not to mention helpful, especially if you own more than one - the packaging is the same colour as the product.

Texture wise there is little between them - they're both soft and smooth and glide nicely onto the lips without any dragging. Neither feel particularly moisturising, but they're comfortable to wear, don't dry out the lips, and last a similar length of time - about 2 to 3 hours, which is the norm for this type of product.

Most people won't notice, but both have a very slight taste/scent - Bourjois' is ever so slightly plasticy whereas Dior's has the faintest fruitiness.

The real difference is in the finish - all four of the  Dior shades are shot through with silver micro shimmer, and are very sheer; even more so, I think, than the original Chubby Sticks.

This makes them a lovely summer pick - they're really pretty in the sunlight, and perfect for times when you don't want a lot of colour or product on your face. Despite the moniker, the finish isn't really jelly at all - these are definitely more of a sparkly, tinted balm.

The Bourjois crayons, on the other hand, are more saturated and all four shades are shimmer free. They're shinier and glossier than the Dior product and offer more colour payoff. The colours look juicy and fresh and will be gorgeous with a tan. But that's not all - they'll also protect from the sunlight, too, with the addition of SPF 15. Clever.

While I'm very enamoured with both products - ultimately, it's a question of budget and preference - overall I think Bourjois excel.  They've outdone themselves with a stunning product that is one of the best in this category - and one of the most affordable, too.

Dior Jelly Kiss Pens are on counter now; Bourjois Colour Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick will be on stands from July 10th. Will you be checking them out?
