Coconut oil: why it needs to be in your makeup bag

Our lives are busy, so finding products that are multi-functional - like coconut oil - is a great investment. And when they're natural and economically friendly, it really is a game changer!

Coconut oil is a product that everyone needs in their lives, and in their make-up bags!

Not only is it a chemical-free, natural superfood, but it also contains powerful fatty acids that can help you lose weight, live longer, etc.

More specifically, coconut oil has just as many beauty benefits as it does health!

If you haven’t tried it, you need to, and we are going to tell you why…

1. Makeup remover

Coconut oil is a natural way to remove makeup and it can be used on any skin type. It is also a great way to break down any waterproof mascara or heavy eye makeup. You can run it directly onto the skin and wash off with a facecloth and lukewarm water. To remove eye make-up, simply use a cotton pad and rub some coconut oil into it, before continuing to use it as a makeup remover. After you’ve softened everything up with the oil, make sure you then wash your face with a gentle face wash to get the remainders of oil out.

2. Frizz tamer and tangle teaser

Apply a small amount of the oil to the palms of your hands, rubbing it in slightly. Next, smooth it over your frizz to achieve a smooth and shiny look.

You can use it in just the same way on wet hair - like a tangle teaser. To use it as a nourishing hair mask, all you have to do is leave a bigger portion of the coconut oil in your hair for 15-20 mins before washing it out. The fatty acids soften your hair, and trap the moisture inside.

3. Body exfoliator

Combine coconut oil and some brown sugar to make a really great body scrub mix. The ratio should be one tablespoon of coconut oil to one tablespoon of brown sugar. After you have showered it off you can use pure coconut oil as an all over body moisturiser for a full treatment.

4. Makeup brush cleaner

Cleaning your makeup brushes should be a monthly ritual. If you don’t do it often enough you should! You should use a natural and eco-friendly homemade makeup brush cleaner that is two parts antibacterial soap and one part coconut oil.

5. Undereye cream

Don't want to spend the extra money on eye cream? Use a dab of the oil on undereye bags and fine lines. It’s extremely nourishing and is light enough for the most delicate skin on your face.

6. Whitening toothpaste

Looking for a chemical-free toothpaste? Or maybe you just ran out? Use coconut oil and add baking soda for a quick fix. Everyone will wonder how you got such a white smile.

7. Itch relief

Burns, bites, stings and bruises can all be soothed with a topical balm of coconut oil, making it a good idea to keep a tub in your medicine cabinet.
