Bedtime Just Got Weird: The Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask

Could this be the most brilliantly named product around? It just might be (although Aveda’s Hand Relief definitely brings the sniggers). I think I was going to be fond of this product purely because of the name alone, but is it any use? Well.

First of all it is a very strange product indeed. The texture is…weird. In the jar it’s springy and, yes, bouncy if you poke it. Scoop in with the wee spatula and the consistency is a bit like a set yoghurt which slowly smooths itself back out no matter how much you mess it up. Hours of fun. I am smushing it up as I type!

The mask is part of The Body Shop’s youth-boosting Drops of Youth range (Laura took a look at the skin-perfecting Wonderblur last year) and it’s designed to be worn on top of your nighttime skincare, although I’d use it instead of a night cream, over a serum. It contains edelweiss stem cells, which purportedly have skin cell renewing properties, and the mask aims to plump and revive skin - hence the ‘bouncy’ thing - while you sleep.

The first time I tried it, I used far too much. It’s slightly tacky and my face was pretty much stuck to the pillow. I couldn’t wait to get to a cleanser when I woke up. The second time I paid a bit more attention and just used a small amount. I massaged it in, using the recommended technique, on top of my night serum.

The next morning my skin did look fresher and more hydrated than it sometimes does. I don’t know if it was bouncy enough to have a tiny child jumping out of my ear, but the result were pretty good! I’m definitely going to stick with this jar of goopy oddness as an occasional skin-boosting treat.
