Beauty buzz: How to give a dark lip serious staying power

Every season we see the usual makeup looks coming back in to fashion, but every now and then a wild card is thrown in to the pot. And even though it's summer (and today is positively balmy), this season we are seeing a huge rise in purple lipstick, especially in the realm of Instagrammers.

Jamie is rocking a dark bronze cut crease and dark lip. The combination can be hard to pull off especially with those of you who have smaller features, but Jamie does it well.

If you want to recreate this lip look, I'd suggest going to Mac and picking up some Rebel - it's a stunner of a shade.

But be aware that when doing such a dark lip, you will need a liner. And Current is the one to go with here.

And here's my top tip: when wearing a dark lip, it works best when applied to a base. Make sure you apply foundation to your lips while doing your skin and then set them with a powder before lining them.

With your liner, map out your lips starting with the cupids bow.

Then using your liner colour in your whole lip area.

Finally apply your dark lipstick of choice with a tapered lip brush. My favourite it this delightful device by Makeup forever.
