Beaut.ie's Guide to Gore: Halloween-Inspired Zombie Bite Tutorial

It will be Halloween in the blink of an eye and here at Beaut HQ, it's full steam ahead as we start experimenting with some spooky and gory makeup and special effects products.

For example, this morning I caught my wrist on a jagged piece of wood opening a gate and ended up ripping the skin off myself. OW!

If you fancy creating your own Halloween gore for your costume, read on and I shall take you through it step by step.

What you'll need:

  • Liquid Latex
  • Fake blood in two tones, light red and dark red
  • Cream face paints
  • Concealer or foundation to match your skin

  • Clean the area where your wound or cut is going to be with warm soapy water and dry with a towel.
  • Take some liquid latex and place it over the skin. Once it dries, you can start to pick it off and shape it to create the desired effect of lifting skin. ( I used bottled liquid latex from Halloween HQ, €5)
  • Take your concealer or foundation and start to cover the white shade from the liquid latex.
  • Take your cream face paints and start to dab a mixture of black and red over the latex with a sponge. (The cream face paints that I used were again from Halloween HQ, Day Of The Dead Makeup Kit, €8).
  • Now it's time for the blood. If you can, It's a good idea to use a bright red blood and darker red blood. This will add dimension to the wounds and look that bit more realistic ( I used Zombie dark red spray blood, €4, along with a tube of Vampire blood, €3; both from Halloween HQ).
  • Use the spray to create blood spatters and since its the darker tone, fill the wounds with it and use the brighter red blood to run down the skin.
  • Once your blood has dried, take some red, water-activated makeup and fill in any parts of your creation that needs a little more depth (I used a red Aqua Make Up Cake from Halloween HQ, €4.99).

It's a simple as that! Be as creative as you wish.

Have you thought much about your Halloween look yet? Are you into the blood and gore or does it turn your stomach too much? And are there any looks that you'd like to see a tutorial on in the coming weeks?
