5 of the best shine busting primers
We love a good primer here at Beaut and if they can keep shine at bay, all the better
Anyone who suffers with oily skin will know how annoying it can be to try to keep the dreaded shine monster in its cave so today we’re looking at some tried and tested primers that will see you through the day.
In texture, this is much like the cult classic Smashbox Studio Finish primer but without the hefty price tag. Only a small amount is needed, usually along the T-Zone. It glides over skin to leave it looking smoother and ready for foundation.
Time Balm Primer from The Balm €23.85
Whether worn alone for a natural finish or underneath makeup to make it last longer for the day, this vitamin-infused formula refines the look of skin, minimising the appearance of pores and fine lines.
Illamasqua Matte Veil €32.50
If you really want to lock in your makeup for the day without the need for retouching, this is the primer to do it. The light texture feels lovely to wear, almost as if you don’t have anything on at all.

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer €68/€28 (travel size)
Expensive, but worth it. Mineral Veil basically put Hourglass on the map, with beauty editors, bloggers and pro makeup artists all raving about it constantly. Among others, Sali Hughes is a huge fan of the light, oil free formula. So is makeup maestro Val Garland.
Kat Von D Lock-It Primer €32
Makeup lovers across the land rejoiced when they heard that Kat Von D’s collection was coming to Debenhams and with good reason. This primer does what it says on the tin, holding makeup well for the whole day but also hydrating skin to make it look and feel its best.
So there you have it, five primers we love. Do you have any others to add to the list?
