Half a Million Dubliners Say Yes to the Scalpel?

According to research conducted by the River Medical Group, "almost half a million people living in the greater Dublin area would not rule out the idea of having cosmetic surgery, with women outnumbering men two-to-one".

The survey covered the counties of Dublin, Meath, Wicklow and Kildare and found that 433,000 adults aged between 19 and 49 were receptive to the idea. With a metropolitan population of around 1.6 million, this is over a quarter of all people living in and around the city, and of those who said yes to the scalpel, 78% say the surgeon's qualifications are the single biggest cause for concern.

Interesting, eh? I'm not remotely squeamish about the whole thing and think I probably will have a bit of judicious facial nippin' and tuckin' done when the time comes. I'm with the 78% though - you get what you pay for, so go to the best. But am I - and River Medical and their survey - the norm, or the exception? After all, it's easy to design surveys and fudge the results to get the outcome you want.

So I did a highly scientific Twitter poll to find out.

Asking the question, "'half a million people in the greater Dublin area would not rule out the idea of having cosmetic surgery' - true? Tweet me, Dubliners!", I got some interesting responses:

"Half a mill? Wowsers. Although I'd probably be amongst them.... *shallow*"

"I'd never rule out a bit of nip/tuck, so. Would love fuller lips."

"Count me out. I'm slowly growing to like my face as the years go by!!!"

"half a million people!?! You'd prob find out that it's legs, tummy and bum and exercise would probably help sort most of it!"

"I wouldn't rule it out completely simply because never say never, but I honestly can't see myself having any out of principle"

What's the overall Beaut.ie opinion though? Are you with the people who'd succumb to the surgeon, or are you a firm no?
