New and Betterised: Rimmel Vinyl Gloss

It's been about for a bit but Rimmel has just made Vinyl Gloss even better, boasting more shine: 80% more, the brand says. It's got another percentage up its sleeve too - lips will be made 40% curvier apparently.

Hmm.

Not sure now how that's going to happen precisely, but claims aside, this set of 14 shades is a pretty good bet for a non-sticky, decently pigmented and affordable treat at €6.55. Not filled with chunks of crazy glitter thankfully, the shimmer is refined and you get a lot in each tube too - I can't locate a millilitre amount on any of the tubes I've been sent but they're definitely larger than most glosses, ok?

So, what about shades? A zoomed-out look at that shot above and some swatches are after the cut.

While it looks like there are just pinks based on the ones I have, there are also nudes/browns, a coral and an on-trend lilac in the line-up. But how do they perform out of the tube?

They're nice - I'd say not the most colour-soaked glosses I've ever used but certainly, for the price, decently shaded. Obviously the darker ones will show up the most on the lips, and Lovesick - the colour worn by Georgia May Jagger in the ad campaign - is very nice and one I'd normally gravitate right to, but oddly it's that peachy nude Take a Chance on the far left I like the most.

It's just very subtle and pretty and very nice for the wee outlay. One for work, methinks, or equally great as a nude lip with a smokey eye. Ah versatile, where would we be without you?
