It was the name of Lucas' Papaw Ointment that piqued my interest at first - aaand then caused The Jungle Book's Bare Necessities to rattle around in my head for about two days after I heard of it. But it seems that this stuff isn't just good for putting one in mind of a catchy movie choon, oh no: Vogue have lately been raving about it as a natural, Antipodean answer to Elizabeth Arden's 8 Hour Cream, and apparently it has quite the cult following in its native Australia (Cate Blanchett and Naomi Watts are just two of its legion of celebridee fans).
A number of our very own Beaut.ies were light years ahead of that Vogue crowd, though, and have been extolling the virtues of Lucas' Pawpaw Ointment since 2006. Yep, yizzer a crowd who knows a good thing when you sees it! Produced Down Under to a recipe formulated by one Dr. Thomas P. Lucas at the turn of the last century, this is a drawing and healing ointment with mildly antiseptic properties. It's made from the papaw, or papaya as it's more commonly known this end of the world, and is billed as a vay useful unguent for the treatment of a myriad of afflictions including (deep breath!): abrasions, boils, bruises, burns and scalds, cuts and scratches, dry and cracked skin, insect stings and bites, sunburn, spots, nappy rash, and cracked nipples. It's also said to be helpful in the temporary relief of the discomfort of haemorrhoids and the symptoms of eczema, dermatitis and similar problem skin conditions.
