Bamboozled by Bourjois: Effet 3D Max Glosses Take Some Getting Used to

They're shiny, they're curvy and they come in six lovely shiny shades. They're Bourjois' latest glossy offering, and they're called Effet 3D Max. They'll set you back €11.99 for a generous 6.5ml size and they claim to be 33% shinier than other glosses. The other point of novelty? A new-gen applicator, say the brand.

It's a piece of PLASTIC. Yup, a little rugby-ball shaped bit of clear, flexible plastic is attached to the top of the wand, with a couple of strategic cut-outs in place. It resembles nothing so much as a coffee stirrer from McDonalds.

I HATED it. Hated it. I don't like change, me. I loved the gloss - Rose Eclat in particular is an absolutely beautiful shade - but couldn't get down with that auld method of application, at all at all. "Bourjois have really shot themselves in the perfectly manicured foot,"  I smugly reckoned, and threw my samples into my Large Plastic Tub of One Million Lip Products and forgot about them.

Until a couple of weeks ago when I was scrambling for a shade, that is. Out came the aforementioned Rose Eclat and whaddya know? There is a learning curve, and also you've got to get over the weird hard feeling of the plastic flippy rugby ball bit, but the shape and firm feel is actually really good at perfecting your pout. It helps to define your cupids bow, rather than smear it, like doefoot wands can. I could be mistaken, but I think you use less gloss thanks to it too.

I'm still getting to grips with this new 'n fancy way of putting my lippie on, but I am fast coming round to it.

What about you? Have you tried Effet 3D Max? Did you love or loathe it?
