Does Even Your HAIR Have a Post-Electric Picnic Hangover? Here is Our Ten Step Pampering Recovery Plan

So, you're just back from a weekend spent in a tent that isn't waterproof, at a festival where high volumes of mud is par for the course. You've been without the comfort of your own bed or the use of a hot shower, far removed from your daily grooming routine. Well actually, we believe there are real showers at Electric Picnic but using them doesn't seem to be the done thing.

Alas, you smell like a month-old gym bag so what are you going to do? Behold, our post EP pampering plan.

  • Step 1.

Stick on the immersion, unless you're one of those lucky folk who doesn't have to wait five hours for the water to heat up.

  • Step 2

Dig out your cosiest PJs or better still, a onesie, and your fluffiest of towels. Turn on the radiator - hey, it's September now, that's OK - and get your post-bath PJs all warmed up. Oooh.

  • Step 3

Clear all clutter out of your bathroom allowing for a calming, rejuvenating environment. Dot your best candle collection around the bathroom as though you're planning for an epic proposal... in a bathroom.

  • Step 4

Draw your bath, adding a super luxurious bath oil. Molten Brown is always a good call here, or if you're a fan of the bubbles and adding some colour to your bath, you can never go wrong with a bath bomb from Lush. We recommend their bombs containing lots of lavender as this will bring you right back to centre after a weekend of festival frivolity and prepare you for a much needed slumber.

  • Step 5

Exfoliate! Chances are, your skin's going to be a little jaded after what we suspect was more than your usual intake of alcohol, so it's time to give your skin a lift.

Let's start with a really good in shower exfoliation treatment. Nía's exfoliator is really worth your time here, it's gritty, it's nourishing and you won't have to work too hard to remove those dead skin cells. Another fantastic exfoliator comes from Cocoa Brown whose Tough Stuff does exactly what it says on the tin. This is especially good if you've doused yourself in false tan for the last three days (so that's basically the entire female population of Electric Picnic and quite a few of the gentlemen too).

  • Step 6

Once you've given yourself time to relax and for those pores to open, and you've successfully washed all of the muck, dry shampoo and lashings of hairspray out of your hair, you'll need to give your hair a good treatment.

We share our top hair masks over yonder, as recommended by the experts. And yes, Kerastase Masqueintense, one of the fastest selling products in the whole world, is one of them.

  • Step 7

You're out of the bath, but you're not done yet. After an intense exfoliation you need to lash on the moisturiser. We recommend L'Occitane's Whipped Body Cream for a weightless, easily absorbed way to instantly hydrate and nourish your skin, but if you're after something a little cheaper, you can't go wrong with something from the Vaseline or Dove range.

  • Step 8

Now it's time to turn your attention to your face. Dark circles under your eyes after a three day bender in a field is pretty much a guarantee. But you can add some lustre back to your skin with a decent face mask. Dermalogica's Skin Hydrating mask comes highly recommended if you've got a little more to spend, while Una Brennan's Superfacialist Rose Intense Moisture Mask at Boots is somewhat more affordable but just as effective.

  • Step 9

Don't forget to hydrate with plenty of H2o, and far more of it than you might think is necessary, and a nice sleep inducing herbal tea before bed. I can't get enough of Tranquility by Dr Stuart. You're not supposed to have more than 4 cups a day, which has to speak volumes for its drowsy effect - ideal for your post festival rest.
