BioEffect EGF Serum: An Introduction

bioeffect efg serum

You may have already heard about this new skin saviour from Iceland: it's making major waves across the beauty blogosphere recently. BritishBeautyBlogger's loving all over it, the Daily Mail (sigh) went doolally too -  and now we've got one to try.

Bioeffect EGF Serum is a pricey prospect at £125STG or €146 for 15ml, and you have to buy it online to boot.  Claiming big things, costing a wodge of cash and suitable for all skintypes, it's got a lot to live up to. So in a selfless display of civic duty, I'll test it out for you lot so we can see if it's actually worth shelling out for. I know, I know. I'm too good.

Here's what the brand has to say about the product and their science:

"Bioeffect EGF is a next-generation anti-ageing serum that improves the appearance and health of your skin by encouraging the skin to repair its own cells. Its key ingredient is Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), a substance which occurs naturally in human skin and which has the ability to speed up the rate of cell turnover within the skin.

Cellular activators are proteins that are vital for the maintenance and repair of skin cells. With age the level of these cellular activators within our skin decreases. Our skin renews itself less frequently, and begins to look less radiant and more wrinkled. Regular, once or twice daily use of Bioeffect EGF Serum reverses this process and gives visible dramatic improvements within weeks."

It promises and claims the following:

  • Reverses the signs of ageing.
  • Diminishes uneven pigmentation.
  • Adds radiance and luminosity.
  • Moisturises deeply.
  • Eliminates dry spots.
  • Improves complexion.
  • Approved by Dermatologists.
  • The only plant derived EGF in skincare

All that aside, my first impressions based on packaging and texture alone are favourable. I LOVE this kind of thing and will happily try a pipette-adorned vial with a liquid inside that promises major things. 15ml is not a lot of product but it feels like it's going to be an achievable thing to test: sometimes I get so snowed under with creams and serums and lotions and potions I find it very hard to get to the end of them. And er, I kind of forget and move on.

This feels nice on the skin. There's a slight smell of alcohol as you apply, it's ever so slightly oily (fine by me, I use oils daily), sinks into skin in about two seconds and basically is an absolutely no-hassle bit of beauty kit that I'll seamlessly incorporate into my nightly routine.

Three nights isn't enough for me to report on any changes or improvements; the 15ml vial should last three months apparently with one drop used per night. I'm completely sceptical about that, by the way. I've been using three and can't imagine getting a whole face effectively covered with a mere single drop, so I reckon on my vial running out a good bit quicker. I'd say you can expect to hear back from me on this round about early March.
