Long and convoluted names are common when it comes to beauty products and they have probably contributed to more than one case of repetitive strain injury when it comes to beauty blogging.
It's not just bloggers who fear the short-story-as-product-name, however. I mean have you ever tried going into a shop and asking for a mouthful such as Akin Unscented, Wheat-free, Very Gentle Conditioner (yes, I have this one in my shower and I'm not making the name up)?
So I was interested to see last week that REN have renamed a lot of their products - shortening long and complex names like Frankincense and Boswellia Serratta Revitalising Night Repair Cream to Frankincense Revitalising Night Cream and renaming Calendula and Arctic Berry Ultracalm Cleansing Milk to Hydra-Calm Cleansing Milk. Apparently the long names were not so popular with customers and it looks like they've decided it makes more sense to let the name indicate what the product does, rather than what exotic and mysterious plant extracts it contains.
When I checked my own bathroom shelves while writing this post, I came to the conclusion that I must prefer a simple product name myself - Trilogy Very Gentle Cleansing Cream does exactly what it says on the tin and you can't really be too confused by Weleda Almond Intensive Facial Cream.
