Spring's feeling mighty far away at the moment after the weekend of ice, snow, THUNDER AND LIGHTNING and apparently up to 10cm more is due in some counties tonight.
Beauty brands operate on a non-weather specific time schedule, and while that'll hopefully cheer us up a little during this freezing spell, we'll need to set the scene a little. To start, lets pretend that we're off on an exotic mini-break to a sun-soaked and frangipani-clad island instead of holed up in our woollens in freezing Ireland, shall we?
Lets also practice the power of positive thinking: "I am warm. I am drinking a boozy cocktail. The sludge of dirty ice, dog poo and junkie sick outside my office is actually hot golden sand and cooling waves. The Irish ruby team is reprazentin' nearby. Wearing very little."
Right! That should do it. Now we're in the right frame of mind to preview some spring beauty buys.
We've said it before, but since Tom Pecheux took over at Estee Lauder, the collections are just getting better and better, and as I mentioned last week, lilacs, purples and violets are a big shade for spring. No surprise so that this lineup is called the Pure Color Wild Violet Makeup Collection, so.
Another really nice and new point of difference for this sometimes staid beauty company is the use of an Asian model for the European market. Available nationwide from February 2011, you can catch the collection previewing at Brown Thomas from the 3rd January 2011, which really isn't long away (erk, nothing done for Christmas. At all).
Eyes are treated to the Pure Color Five Color EyeShadow Palette in Wild Violet, €45. A quint of neutrals and a darker smokey colour, there's also that bright, on-trend and stand-out shade in the centre. It's apparently got some shimmer and the brand is recommending use thusly: "Create a subdued foundation using the outer shades and use the centre shade to define a strong lashline for flawless glamour." Right so.

Two new, limited edition shades of Pure Color EyeShadow in Untamed Violet and Sugar Cube, €21, will also be landing, as will an equally limited shade of Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in Untamed Violet, €24.50. And what's that polish shade? Patience, young Padawans, we'll have a look at that in a sec. First lets take a close-up at the palette, shall we?
One word: WANT.
Another: Yum.
I am loving the look of the lip shades. They really are very me: brash (in the best possible way, natch), bright and bold. Yay!
Four new limited edition Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick shades in Wild Violet, Wild Coral, Wild Blossom and Wild Fire, €22, will be complimented by matching limited edition Pure Color Gelée in Electric Cherry, Electric Violet, Electric Pink and Electric Coral, €21.

Mm. MMmmMMmmm. Something called True Vision Technology is included in this shimmery deep grey, promising to deliver "high-impact, vivid colour that resists chipping and is longer lasting for a bold statement." The shade is Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Storm, and it's going to be €17.
Anything floating your boat for spring?
