Louise Redknapp investigates pregorexia

louiseredknapp

Last night Louise Redknapp rolled out her latest skinny minny expose on UTV.

And just like her quest for Size Zero this program was equally disturbing. The pressure put on celebrities like Louise to lose the baby weight instantly after giving birth is immense. Eight months pregnant Louise found herself described in magazines as "massive". (She was still fitting into size ten clothes by the way). And adding to that pressure just nine weeks after her planned cesarean she had a lingerie photoshoot for Triumph.

I think Louise got her own back on the editor of Now magazine though. If you watched this you'll know what I mean. Unflattering camera angles eh?

Ordinary women see this celebrity weight loss and believe that it is achievable for everyone. So 'pregorexia' is on the rise. Women controlling their weight during pregnancy to the extent that one who was eight months pregnant had only put on eight pounds. This is obviously unhealthy and puts the unborn baby at risk, but the women who did it couldn't help themselves.

But just like the size zero program none of this was surprising. We all know celebrities have tummy tucks at the same time as their planned cesareans. We know they undergo surgery to hoover out any flabby bits. We know they can afford to hire personal trainers and nannys while they snap back into shape. But it is really terrible to see this being transferred down to the rest of us.

What do you think of this whole issue?
