They Drink! They Fight! They Fornicate! Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor: Not quite the comeback we were hoping for

When the news broke that Lindsay Lohan was to play Elizabeth Taylor in Liz & Dick, a film about her tempestuous relationship with Richard Burton, the world wondered what the hell the producers were playing at. I was willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, because every time a new LiLo film is announced, I usually end up hoping that this is when Lindsay will sort her life out and make a proper comeback. I loved Mean Girls so much, I can’t write her off completely just yet.

At first, we were lured into a false sense of security by this gorgeous promo shot of Lindsay and her co-star Grant Bowler in character. It’s really lovely and Lindsay looks amazing in it.

However, with the tv film’s release coming ever closer, a trailer has been released, The Hollywood Reporter has written a review and it’s not looking particularly good for LiLo. The trailer looks outrageously trashy and shallow, it’s basically a montage of Lindsay in fancy dress and a few shots of things getting smashed (Liz and Dick included) and the pair romping around in fancy sheets.

Also that voiceover is hilarious, but I’m not sure it was meant to be. And that’s pretty much how the review by the Hollywood Reporter goes too. They’ve labeled it “half train wreck, half SNL skit” and have described one particular moment where Lindsay shouts “I won’t live without you!” and runs down a hall as being like a school play. I have to say, I do feel bad for Lindsay as it doesn’t appear that this will be her comeback and the beginning of her copping on to herself, but I kind of love how awful the film sounds.

Terrible, camp films are a guilty pleasure of mine, and it sounds like it could be another Burlesque (that sparkly mess that Christina Aguilera and Cher were in a few years ago). Shiny, ridiculous and something you can play a drinking game to.

Liz & Dick is airing on Lifetime in the US on the 25th of this month, but I don’t know if it’s going to make it’s way over here. Either way, does it sound like something you’ll be seeking out to watch? Or are you sick to the teeth of LiLo and her million probation violations?
