Our analysis of the Game of Thrones season 6 trailer

Usually about this time of year we are inundated with Game of Thrones teasers and trailers, however season six is so tightly under wraps that we're starting to think those involved must have signed a Man of the Night's Watch style oath to keep their silence.

However, yesterday we got the much anticipated trailer, and a red band one to boot - a whole 1 minute 41 seconds of brand new Game of Thrones scenes. Although for every question it may have answered, there were so many more in its place.

And since there's still over six weeks until the premiere, all we can do is mull over every single one of them.

1. Where will Cersei's revenge begin?

Cersei is certainly looking in better shape than when we last saw her when she was being shamed (shame!) through the streets of King's Landing. Now however, she is no longer relying on her child King to help her out but instead has a Frankenstein-like foot soldier at her side, which is thought to be a resurrected Gregor Clegane.

She's still rocking her pixie crop though and looks intent on revenge on her former captives the Faith Militant, although we do know that she now also has to deal with the death of yet another child as we're figuring Myrcella definitely didn't make it off that boat. She's reunited with her twin/lover Jaime too who tells her "Everything they’ve taken from us we’re going to take back, and more".

There's no shots of Dorne so we are assuming that the Lannisters will be putting their revenge on House Martell on the long finger until they sort out their own city first. By the looks of the shot below, they're not holding back either.

2. What's to become of Daenerys?

Last we saw of Daenerys she was rescued from imminent death by her faithful dragon Drogon (g'wan the Drogon), however it was a bit of a case of going from the frying pan into the fire, as she then found herself captured by the Dothraki. Can't a girl get a break?

Considering she used to be Mrs Dothraki though you'd imagine they'd be delighted to see her... Daenerys isn't looking too happy with her situation however, but sure look, at least she's still alive.

And... Lord Friendzone is on the way to rescue her! Honestly, that fella just can't take a hint.

3. What of Sansa?

Last we saw of Sansa and Reek, they were taking a leap of faith together over the walls of Winterfell, and while it was left open as to whether they survived or not, we all kind of knew they did. They must have had incredibly sore bottoms though to be fair.

Anyways, looks like it works out alright for Sansa who we see all cleaned up and garbed in Northern attire, perhaps she is going to look for her brothers Bran and Rickon who she now knows are alive?

Doesn't seem to have panned out too well for Reek however, who appears to have been captured by Bolton's army. That dude has no luck.

The trailer would make it seem like Tyrion is talking to Sansa, but we figure that's just the editing as last we saw of him he was in Meereen and sure that's a good few kingdoms away from the North.... Right? We may need to brush up on our Westeros geography before April.

4. Is Bran walking?

We haven't seen Bran since season four when himself and his Scooby gang found themselves at that mystical tree beyond the wall where a raven told Bran he would never walk again but he would fly... sure why not.

However, by the looks of the shot in the trailer, Bran has not only got himself a brand new do, but he's also standing up and beside the White Walkers no less... what is this sweet madness?

Well we're assuming it's one of Bran's visions and he's not actually chillin' with the White Walker folk now, but even so, it still proves interesting as his visions could be key to whatever inevitable battle there is down the line.

5. Is that Ned Stark?!

The second most important question raised from the trailer (we all know what the first is) is whether or not the below image is that of a young Ned Stark.

There have been rumours abound that Game of Thrones were going to go full flashback this season and show this infamous fight at the Tower of Joy during Robert's Rebellion, with scenes filmed in a place that looks like the tower at the Castillo de Zafra in Guadalajara, Spain.

This of course was the tower that Ned Stark's Lyanna was 'held' in during the rebellion against the Targaryens and where Robert and Ned rescued her from. However, as those who indulge in the Game of Thrones theories will know, it's believed that it was here that Jon Snow was born to the parentage of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen (R+L=J, y'all).

Also a later shot in the trailer shows this apparent young Ned Stark fighting soldiers baring the Targaryen sigil of a three-headed dragon on his chestplate.

It's a flashback alright, but why would this event that happened so long ago needed to be shown unless...

6. Is Jon Snow coming back to life?

The one question on everyone's lips since those heartbreaking final moments of season five, is of course, if Jon Snow is still alive. Well, as the very first shot of the trailer blatantly shows, and indeed says; 'He's gone'. But sure we all knew that there was no way he could have survived that stabbing, the real question is, will he be brought back to life?

We know the Red Priestess Melisandre is hanging around Castle Black, completely disillusioned over what happened with Stannis... will she cast her eyes on Jon Snow and realise (like we all HOPE) that he is key to it all? He could certainly do with some of her Priestess mojo.

At one point we do see someone putting their hands over Jon Snow's eyes but it really doesn't look like Melisandre... perhaps it's just Sam coming to pay respect to his bestie?

The most interesting Jon Snow related scene comes in the final moments though as we see Ser Davos whip out Snow's famous sword Longclaw and say; "I’ve never been much of a fighter. Apologies for what you’re about to see."

It looks then like he is going for Jon Snow's body but the fact that the other men in the room pull out their swords means that SOMETHING bigger is about to go down. Perhaps Davos is protecting Jon Snow's body so that his frenemy Melisandre can resurrect him?

You know you want to believe it too.

Season six of Game of Thrones will be simulcast on Sky Atlantic at 2am on April 25, at the same time as it airs in the US, and will be repeated at 9pm the same day.
