Kelly -

Owie I hope your blister heals soon, that sounds sore!!!

I did W1D2 last night too, went much better for me than D1 - I had a problem with stitches on D1 but my breathing was better yesterday so I think that sorted it for me.

Other common causes of stitches (AFAIK) include:
- dehydration
- eating in the hour before you go running (although some would say in the 2-3 hours before you go running)
- weak core muscles
- increasing the intensity of exercise too quickly

Also... Most runners apparantly have a preferred foot which corresponds with exhaling, and if you are inclined to land on your right foot as you exhale you can be more inclined to stitches (to do with the movement of the diaphragm, the ligaments attached to it, and the weight of the liver). You could try exhaling as your left foot hits the ground and see if that makes a difference.

Now, not to sound like your ma or anything :D but did you do any cool down exercises afterwards? Even if you feel that you don't need to, it's *so* important to cool down properly after any physical activity, you're leaving yourself open to injury and things like next day muscle soreness if you don't.

(Puts away soap box ;) )

Sweetie - good woman, you're flying!

Kelly - I always burst blisters. I know they say you shouldn't do that (because of risk of infection, I think) but that's the quickest way to get rid of them. In the evening, make sure your foot is clean, then burst it, squeeze out all the water (might sting a little bit) and dry it well. Then leave it uncovered for the night and it should be dry by the morning. You might want to put a plaster on it for the day if you have to wear shoes, then in the evening take the plaster off and be barefoot so it dries quicker.

well done girls :D
w1d3 for me today and so not feeling it- esp with opportunity of pub lunch instead! im going anyway though coz I know if I leave it till tomorrow I won't go at all!

also i mentioned i was running at lunch at work and another girl is now going to join me- be good to have a running buddy although not sure how to work it coz i rely on the podcasts to tell me when to walk or run! must see if i can program my HRM watch to beep at the right intervals...

i think i saw on a video on about.com that you are more prone to stitches when you have incorrect posture...you need to have a straight spine and tall torso and watch your not slumping your shoulders or putting ur arms across your body when your tired....

jeez kelly well done on the flat out 6 mins- i certainly couldnt do that (yet ;)!)

i think im a freak of nature in that i dont seem to sweat much at all- probably coz i have terrible dry flaking skin 365 days of the year since i was a baby and dont have enough moisture to lose- but i just get LOBSTER red instead and it takes me hours to get bk to normal after!i never have visible sweat on my body/face although i do sweat a tiny bit under arms...sorry if tmi and im grossing ye out!!!

Thanks for all the stitch advise ladies..it could be any of the above reason lynnie gives esp weak core muscles but will try the left foot exhale next time.

Yes lynnie I did a cool down after the wee run but mind you I wasn't a bit cool..you could've fried an egg on me I was that red hot (not in a sexy way!)

me blister isn't huge & it has burst but just rubs something wicked when I've shoes on. luckily its still warm here so still in my flipflops the rest of the time so its nice & dry.

jealous you not sweating...would love that!

This might be a stupid question but anyway...
really want to start this programme but don't have anywhere "safe" to do it as the evenings are getting darker - is it ok to do this on a threadmill??

Emz - Treadmill is fine if you can't run outdoors. It's more boring and you won't get the benefit of fresh air but it's still running and will get you fit! Just be aware that it's quite a bit easier so when you do start running outdoors, you'll probably find it a little bit harder at first.

emz i read that if you put the threadmill on a slight incline it is more like running outdoors as you'll be on uneven surfaces most of time if running in parks etc. Not sure of the science behind it..but shir any running is better than none so best of luck with it!
