Couch to 5k

Postby sweetie1 » Tue Sep 22, 2009 2:24 pm

Hi all,
I've decided to start up a thread for those of us who for one reason or another can't make tina's fantactic running class ( http://www.runwithtina.com ) and are interested in doing the couch to 5k program. Its to do with building up from a couch potatoe to running 5k in 9 weeks. I've started the program before - and loved it - but ended up having a few bad weeks after week 5 or 6 and not getting back into it  And I know there's a few of you interested in starting up or re-starting so I thought this would be a good place to share our thoughts & experiences be it ideas for running tunes or getting guilted into getting out there and doing it!!

Drop a comment below and let us know when you're getting started and keep us updated on progress. I'm hoping to start this evening and jump to week 3 or 4 as I've done it before.

You can get the program on coolrunning.com under couch to 5k.

Happy running,
Sweetie1.

I'm aiming to start this evening too. Complete beginner and eh no proper running gear that hasn't been used as decorating clobber so if you're in Portarlington later and see a girl in paint-covered trakkie bottoms jogging/walking, well that'll be me ;)

Am planning to load up some good choons to listen to while I do it but would prefer if Himself would do it too, end of quarter for him though so I'd say I'll be on my tod!

I'm planning on starting this evening too but I'm so stiff from gym/swim yday that I'm not sure how far I'll get. Think music is the key to motivation as a good song passes times much quicker & you run faster if you like the song.

I think I'm going to download the get running app on Itunes as I need someone to tell me when to run/walk so will let you know how I go with it.

C'mon girls we can do this... :-)

Kelly, I think what would be ideal for me would be a playlist of excellent music with lots and lots and lots of bass, cut with a hardcore U.S. marine type shouting at me to jog/walk/run/keep going at the appropriate intervals!

Sounds like what we all need Lynnie! But of course we'd have the mental image of the shouting US marine as a serious hottie...in uniform! Then we'd run
Actually looking forward to going out in the park tonight and doing it. I don't have my ipod this week though, so I'll be checking time intervals on the stopwatch on my phone - very amateur!

Teeeeeennnn hut!

Sweetie, I am very jealous of you with the relative privacy of the park. Not looking forward to doing my speeding up/slowing down/keeling over on the footpaths

Blue, Cheers for the DJ Steve linky, will have a goo of that on the way home.

Lynnie this one I'm in the middle of downloading (get running) cuts into your music so I'm going to make a nice list of bangin toons...Black Eyed Peas/Killers/Kings of Leon/Kasabian to keep me going. Eek its all very exciting as I'm envisaging the belly falling off me with all this running..fingers crossed.

I do a lot of cycling (some wks up to 50miles) & Swim 3 time a week but cannot shift this half stone I'm lumbering around with..its my belly so not like I can hide it. find that my body is just too used to cycling & swimming so need something more challenging.

Well, after getting home from work later than normal, I was feeling tired, kranky and hungary. Very tempted to just cook some dinner then hit the couch, or do a much needed clean up of the house...until I realised I'd have to post here today and didn't want to appear lazy on the first day!! Threw on the tracky's and went for my jog/walk in Herbert Park. I started on week 4 as I'd made it up to week 5-6 in June and had only been doing a very odd bit since. Found it a bit hard towards the end but stayed at it. I might do week 4 twice before hitting week 5 if I'm still finding it difficult at the end of the week. Feel grand today though, no pain or ache or even a twinge!

How'd the rest of ye do?
