Itchy red spotty face - food or cosmetic allergy?!

Postby cloudsteph » Tue Apr 10, 2012 12:11 pm

On Sunday night, I did my usual routine before bed of washing all my make up off with Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant. When I rinsed it off, my face turned bright red and was followed by itching and a strange bumpy feeling.

As it felt hot and tight, I popped some Vichy Aqualia Mineral Balm on it and it immediately felt better and calmed a bit so I went to sleep hoping it would be gone in the morning.

The following morning, it was still weirdly bumpy in places but the redness and itch had subsided. I splashed my face with water to get sleep outa my eyes and boom - back to square one with itching and redness again. Since then the redness has gone down again but it itches like crazy and feels tingly and bumpy.

I had an "express" Dermalogica facial on Saturday during which the therapist used a strong chemical exfoliator and wondering if this could be the trigger? My favourite health food store assistant said it was more likely something I ate but other than chocolate, I haven't touched anything out of the ordinary this weekend.

Aside from what caused it, I don't know what to do to fix it. I just took an anti-histamine to stop me tearing my face off at work and the rose water spritz the health food lady recommended is helping cool the tingly but what next?!

Help!

So many things could have affected your skin.
The one that seems to me to have jumped out is the facial.
However, your skin is constantly going through so much. With what we use and eat. Also anything you've touched, will end up on your face. Clothes, and cloths, simply taking the clothes out of the washer, you'll end up touching your face, transferring detergent that lingers, onto your skin.
The skin on your face is different to the skin elsewhere.

If the problem returns, then I'd seek help from a doctor or dermatologist.
If it was a food allergy, I'd say it would affect not just your face, but other areas of the body.
