Swaplifting

Postby aphrodite » Thu Aug 20, 2009 11:35 am

Please be aware that swaplifting does happen. (i.e. you send your item in good faith and never get your swap in return).

If something seems too good to be true it very well might be. If the person you are swapping with is new to Swap Siopa or new to Beaut.ie ask them to send their end of the swap first. Don't send yours until you have received it. If they are genuine they won't mind.

In order to stop Swap Siopa dissolving into a mess of snot and tears (thank you for that image Principessa!) we recommend that you do this. Please PM Principessa if you have any queries.

Just a postscript to Aphrodite's advice... keeping your swaps in the public domain can deter potential swap-lifters from thieving. Always send postal address etc. by PM, but when you have agreed on the actual swap post those details in the thread.

And if your swap does not arrive as promised, send a PM to the swapper, stating that if you don't hear from them within three days you will have to report them to a mod for swaplifting.

If you hear nothing further then a postcard to the address you posted the swap to can sometimes solve the problem. I have heard stories (not from Beaut.ies, thankfully) of parents of thirteen year olds suddenly discovering that little Tammy wasn't just doing her homework on the computer!!!! A postcard means other people in the house will see what your swapper has been up. Remember to keep it simple, state the facts and don't get abusive or accusatory - family emergencies can really happen.

Happy and safe swapping!!
