Thanks tina, i'll remember that for when i'm in trouble. I managed to do the 20min run , got to last 30sec's and thought i couldn't go on but just slowed a bit. I did find it tough going and i did look like a freckly beetroot for at least an hour after. The wind is crazy it doesn't matter what day or where i run the wind is against me, beginning to take it personally now (",). Aifs yeah for getting back to it you'll be doing week 5 in no time. Due to start week 6 2moro so back to intervals for few days.

I did Week 3 day one yesterday evening. I struggled a little. I won't lie! :) Running for 3 minutes was a little more than I could handle. *Insert laughs here!* Clearly unfit, I know, but I'm going to get there.

I did wk6 run2 this morning, god i was like a roast chicken  by the end of it and in the second 10min run I had to walk for about 30secs to try and get control over my breathing. But managed to finish OK, on the longer runs I find my asthma starts to have an impact. So think I need to work on my breathing a bit more.

Hey Loco - well done! The warm weather makes it so much harder, doesn't it.. first you had the wind and now this, hehe ;) Take it v easy in warm weather, your body heats about 10 degrees when you run so you have to remember that if it's 20 degrees outside, you'll feel like it's 30. Dress light and try to stay in the shade as much as you can.
With regards to your asthma, yes, work on your breathing. Long and steady breaths in and out and really focus on breathing out - you need to empty your lungs properly so that you can get fresh air in again! Make sure you carry your inhaler with you and you'll probably notice that it depends on the weather a lot - I think today it was a bit humid, air is kind of heavy and there's probably a lot of pollen in air, ie. less oxygen so it makes breathing harder. I have exercise induced asthma myself and it completely depends on the weather how I feel. Cold or humid weather are the worst. I take my (blue) inhaler before running always in the winter time and in the summer if it's really humid or if there's a lot of pollen in the air. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to run! If you find it bothers you regularly, talk to your doctor. I used to get really bad chest pains after running - first I'd find it difficult to breathe while running, sometimes had to stop, and then afterwards I'd be in agony for hours.
Also, I've seen lots of people who have had asthma in the past and even if they've had no symptoms for years, it might start bothering them again when they first start running. Usually it's not a big problem, once their lungs strenghten and get used to it, they're fine but it might be worse in certain weather conditions, as I said above.
Anyway, hope it won't give you too much bother over the next few weeks!
Let us know how you get on, you're running good distances now so well done so far!

Deciding to get on the bandwagon for this! thanks for the advice Tina! Anyone else beginning or still taking part? Any success stoires from those who have gone through the full programme?? :)

EEEeep, i'm so excited, granted it's now 12.46 am, but I have been meaning to get into running for a while, but kept putting it off.I have dabbled with running on the treadmill, and loved the "freedom" I felt, with all the worries slipping from my mind, and the sheer warmth and burst of happiness i garnered during and after doing said exercise (ahem, cheesey and cliched i know, but I feel exercise really does have a psychological element to it as well :geek: )

And now, i'm ready for the road, figuratively and literally.
Hooray! :D

Hi snowdrop. I was meant to re start this week but hurt my back on sunday. It's fine now but I don't want to risk it for another week so fingers and toes crossed I should be good to go next week.

Over 2 years since I started this post...my running has dwindled alot...to pretty much non existant in the last few months! Think I'll be using the c25k to get back into it again starting this week. Just did a few brisk walks last week so hopefully I won't die when starting to run tonight!!

Sweetie1 - go for it. Best to go straight back to square one, start from the beginning of the programme and don't skip any sessions. I have a lot of girls come back to me, some for the third time, and they always find they enjoy it more and it's a bit easier the second (or third) time around. Good luck!

Finally got going tonight, no back problems, got home at 6.30 pm. Tonight was lovely, not too cold but not mild either.

Anyone else start / restart lately?

Haven't been running outside per se . . . instead joined the gym and doing running on treadmill. Probably not nearly as effective, but is more for convience and safety as it is always dark when i come home from college

Going well so far, about twice a week, and when my coursework subsides, I hope to up the anty to 3/4 times a week! :P
