Evening ladies!
Wk2D2 done and dusted and feeling great! Starting to feel like I can definitely do this now.............. Just wish people who can run and do run would just stop asking silly questions which are making me feel a little crap. How do you all respond to these people?

Other than that alls good and I m looking forward to wk3......

Hi all,

i have been reading this post for a while and only this morning decided to register. It seems to be a great motivator for you all and you all seem to be doing quite well at it. I started the cto5k on the threadmill but after a few weeks i switched to outside and had to start again as found running outside much harder than using the threadmill.I'm starting wk3 this afternoon so just hope i'm able for the 3min run. I'm finding the breathing quite hard and would have said i was reasonabley fit before this but running is proving quite the challenge for me!

Emz - could be shin splints - i dunno, maybe Tina or someone else real sporty could tell you better...hope its getting a bit better anyway!
Welcome chocomoe - good luck with W3 - it is a bit harder outsidealright, but not as boring i find as the treadmill.
Sounds like you're doing well meabh, well done...who's asking you silly questions?!

Emz - sorry, didn't see your post about your shins there earlier... Shin splints is just a generic name for any pain in the shins, there could be few different causes for it. It's difficult to say without more details or without seeing you.... is it just on one side of your body? Is it bone or muscle that hurts? What's the pain like in your knee? Where is the pain in your hip? Is it deep inside the hip or Most often people get pains because of muscle tightness, so it's quite likely that your calves are very tight and your hamstrings and quads are probably tight as well. Do the heel dip calf stretch 3x day for few days - do you know that one? Also, stretch your hamstrings and quads every day. Hold the stretches for min 30sec to 1minute. Stretch your glutes (i.e. your buttocks) as well while you're at it as those are probably tight as well.
Maybe next time start with a short run. Do 3min - walk 1 - run 5min - walk 1 - run 5 - walk 1 - run 5 or something like that. You'll still be running the same length of time.
HTH

Chocomoe - well done!

Sweetie1 - Good luck!!

Well done ladies - you're all flying it!

Tina - thanks for the post - basically it's only in my left leg & mainly down the front of my shin. I haven't ran at all this week because I've found that if I even walk quickly at the moment, the pressure of the steps (maybe?) causes the pain. The pain in my knee & hip is dull & not constant - only when I run. Not sure I'm explaining myself right, sorry - I think you are right about the muscles being tight - will definitely do those exercises starting now - thanks so much!

Emz - that sounds painful. Try if the stretches help. Also, deep tissue massage would be good. If you're in Dublin, I can recommend someone really good....

Tina - it is quite painful to be honest so I am doing the stretches & hoping to be able to ease myself back next week maybe. Thanks for the recommendation offer but I'm in Cork, however I will check out someone local - thanks again!

Hey, I just started W1D1 last night. Found it ok, was tough at the start but I think I was trying to run too fast, slowed down for the second half and felt ok when I got home. Had done Pilates before I went so I was nice and loose too which prob helped. Hope I can keep it up now, the rain was putting me off last night so I'm glad I talked myself into doing it!

hey girls

was only feeling so good about running wed (and today ) when diaster has stuck :( i was 10 mins into a 30 min run and my calf felt very tight- more achy than tight so i said id better walk it out- stretched it too- walked for about 5 mins felt ok but i was eager to run so i started back to a jog on a slight hill and OUCH my muscle pulled- it hurt :(

it then took me 45 mins to limp back and my other leg hurts form compensating now (that's fine will go soon) but im so upset- just when im getting into it something like this happens :( how long do you think it'll take to heal and is there anything I can do to help it heal quicker?
