i do shift work.....mixture of 9 / 10 /12 hour shifts.......today im on a 12 hour shift 8-8, when I get home, it'll be 8.30......(im acutally off tomorrow) but if i wasnt i'd be back in bed at 10.30!

2 hours to do what? catch up on telly? it would be too dark to go out for a walk on my own! AND i can't find my iPod...I'm actually in distress that I can't find it!

@ thatone - I hear ya. . . Haven't been to the gym since last Thursday, as studying for exams. Really wanted to go one of the days this week, but that seems like an unrealistic aspiration, given that each minute should be held accountable. Going to take this week off instead, as exams on Fri, but will go Saturday again for the start of my 3 day stint. Funny thing is I Love exercising, just time is an issue atm.

@celj- that's completely ridick. . . You have barely any time 2 yerself at all. It's very difficult to adopt a frequent exercise routine into a busy lifestyle, what with work and all. I hope you can at least get some time 2 yourself at some point this week so you can go for a walk. Completely agree with you re the iPod, I can' t go to the gym without it. . . . Even though the gym plays really uptempo stuff,I won't work out unless I have my iPod and armband thingy. best of luck locating it. . . Shure it's bound to turn up somewhere :)

Snowdrop - I ate like a horse for the Christmas, put on a few lbs, now have a dose of something and the xmas lbs are disappearing, phew, if it could only take another 60lbs with it.

celj - I'm with you on the long shifts, have taken over as manager in a shop and it's my baby and I'm working ridiculous hours at the moment and my only guaranteed day off for the whole year is Christmas day, to say I'm shattered is an understatement.

The last few months have seen no exercise being done, eating anything near by to me to keep me going in tired moments - which when you work in a shop, well there's a lot of food. Going to start bringing my gym bag to work with me in the car and write up on the calendar at the start of the week what days I'm going to the gym and then relax at the weekends as much as I can and catch up on the sleep I'm not getting during the week, I'm forever waking up during the night because I'm afraid that I'm going to sleep through my alarm.

thatone - all your hard work and study will be worth it soon when you're qualified. I know what you mean about it being dark, so hard to motivate yourself to do anything when its dark and miserable out.

Right lovely ladies and lads if they be here - I started one of them there fatbet yolkies. If anyone wants the extra motivation by competing with a few people weekly (I set one up til June, my aim is high at 49lb but I'll do what I can of that, prob half if I can!) PM/tweet (@cakeinthcountry) me and I shall send you link to it. All welcome! Losers have to donate to a charity (to keep it competitive and all that) in the end, unless someone has a better idea!

thatone - can explain a bit more about the fatbet idea?? I'd like to loose about 10 pounds but I can never seem to keep my motivation up for long enough to actually loose them.

Have been doing really well on the healthy eating buzz since Tuesday, which is very unlike me - so far so good for 2012!! I always fall down at the weekend though so the next few days will be the real test. I'm finding preparation is the key, if I haven't planned what I'm going to eat I panic and fall into bad habits.

I knew I'd be mental at work this week (12 hours days) so I didn't make any effort to exercise as I knew I'd fail (I walk to and from work every day, 20 minutes each way but that's not enough!!). Heading for my first run of the year tomorrow though, we'll see how it goes. Thinking of signing up to the 5K in the Phoenix Park in February to keep me on track, is anyone else thinking of doing it?

@ GeeGee - I say you must be under a fair amount of pressure as your running the show - can't even imagine! Hopefully you'l be again to find time during your schedule to fit in a bit of me time, let alone exercise time.

@ thatone - great idea. I may join you. Atm using my fitness pal app, and according as I'm losing the weight, I input the figure into the app and it graphs my progress . . .down 4lb so far! woo :)

@Sparkle101 - Fair play to you re the healthy eating. That's the one aspect I'm falling wayside on atm. I not necessarily eating crap, just a lot of carbohydrates - rice/pasta/bread/white rolls, etc. But weightloss is 30% exercise and 70% eating plan. Have cut out chips though, so thats good..

So I'm off to the gym today, the first time in a week as have been studying non stop! Can't wait, as Have been mad busy with work and study, so looking forward . . . this equates to my "me" time as well . . . as i zone out, while listening to my music . . . no phone/interruptions/study/work= bliss
Motivation wise - if anyone is looking for inspiration, I recommend a gander of this post by Sinead at Viva Adonis http://www.vivaadonis.com/2012/01/viva-health-motivation-101.html Very well written and really good pointers. Personally, I like to buy cute workout clothes - Of late I have been purchasing NEON BRIGHT tshirts and wear with cropped or long nike sweats. Cheap active wear in TK maxx atm if anyone is looking?

Other than that, check out this guy who is causing a bit of a stir in Amerikay - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rwb0ucPXcU
His name is drew and he is a personal trainer who quitt his healthy eating and fitness regime for 6 months (he gained 75 lb :o ) and is now going to show how to work you way back to getting fit again by working out and eating right! he does eating plans and home and gym workouts, as well as weekly weigh-ins and measurements.

Hey all, sounds like its going pretty well for ye, especially considering the long work and study hours yer putting in! good stuff outta ye!
I'm officially back on the bandwagon after a month long Christmas indulgence and then being crocked with a bad headcold most of last week (no doubt due to Christmas burn out!) Been good enough this week though, had some form of exercise every day since last Thursday - albeit v light the first few days...did a spin class monday (nearly died!) and day 1 of week3 of the c25k...yet again yesterday. The food has been good since Monday too with porridge, stir fries & the like. Going to sign up for the 5k ucd rás at end Feb for some motivation for the running...was going to do the operation transformation funrun but it filled up really quickly!

Well done everyone.

I was knocked sideways with the flu since New Year's day. Really horrible. The only good thing was I had no appetite but any weight I might have lost is back on. I was good in the junk food department though so I'm not craving chocolate or anything. Today is the first day I feel any way normal so it's back on the Kill Jill wagon and must bring the dog for a walk/run.
