Lip Balm Anonymous: but do we really want to ditch the habit?

Everyone knows that the use of lip balm is an addictive habit.

In the past lots of you have confessed to having five… six… seven…twenty on the go at any one time. In the car, in handbags, in every coat pocket and in the desk drawer at work.

Panic can set in if a situation occurs where no lip balm is available.

Now here’s my take. Lip balm moisturises your lips. Without it we’d have dry chapped, cracked bleeding lips – no matter what the nay sayers may have you believe. And lip balm is cheap. Unless you go for the Creme de la Mer and if you do sure you’re not on this planet anyway.

So what’s the problem? You could have an addiction to gambling, alcohol, drugs – but lipbalm?

Eh. Big deal. Go for it.

Kiehl’s lip balm is the best I’ve ever used. I’ve the vaseline aloe vera one at work but it’s useless! Fresh sugar lip balm is great too, I’ve two in the car – keep trying to use the end of one but I think it’s everlasting!

I always use Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream on my lips but I really like the sound of that Nuxe Reve de Miel. Where can I buy it???

  • Josie says:

Oh my God, I must be an addict too, my friend was just teasing me today about the variety of balms I have in my car, pockets, bag and drawer at work. And I keep buying more!!! My favorite so far is the Blistex Lip Restore, doesn’t leave that horrible waxy feeling on your lips but does leave a little shine. Where can I buy the Kiehl’s lip balm & Fresh Sugar Balm?

  • minxinparis says:

OOOH lipbalm another addict here. Currently use Dermophil indien vanilla flavour but also treasure a Body Shop morello cherry which I have been hanging onto for years, just love sniffing it! Kiehls and Nuxe are pretty good too, and slather on E Arden at night for heavy duty overnight repair.

  • Josie says:

    Hi minxinparis,

Where can I buy that Dermophil balm?

  • minxinparis says:

Josie, I live in Paris (funnily enough) so easy to find, here’s the link, not sure if it is available elsewhere but they have an English page so you could write to them

    Minxinparis,

I’m going to Paris (Disney) at the end of November, would I get it in a chemist?

  • Brownbella says:

    Blisteze (*formally blistex)

Instantly soothes & hydrates lips, great for any dry skin and blisters as I have a habit of licking my lips.

    under 4euro too :) :)

    I’m a chap ice addict!
I love my lip balm, and have been known to apply it up to 3 times in 20 Minutes, no joke! It’s come to the point where my parents laugh at me over it, even my dad notices! and my friends rely on me for it.lol.
Carmex is brilliant, I love it to bit, but I got desperate after 3 days of chap stick and bought chap ice instead! It’s a medicated coldsore treatment, but i use it loads!

  • Breige says:

actually,I have an organic/natural version of chapstick,I wonder wher eit is,it smells so nice!

  • Gingerrama says:

oooh, must try the Yes to Carrots now – ladies, you’ve persuaded me. Or led me even further astray. Yes, this IS an addiction – especially with the curiosity factor.

  • laineyg says:

Josie, the Kiehls is in Nu Bleu Eriu, I think – don’t know if it is anywhere else but I’d assume Space NK (is that open yet). It is MASSIVELY overpriced though over here – a $7 tube is about €12.

I like a set that my friend got me in USA, but i’ve seen them in urban outfitters, they’re punk rocky style with pink & black wrappers and they’re all different flavours like chocolate, cherry cupcake, doughnut etc, they leave a lovely shine and they taste really nice!
Another one I like is a Savannah Bees one – it’s beeswax based and I think the brand must be similar to Burt’s Bees, i’ve never seen it here though. I also like the 8 hour cream on the lips, nice and shiny, must pick up a tube, it was the free sample I was using! Much prefer wearing lip balm than lip gloss as I much prefer the feel of it on my lips!
Next in line that I really want to get is the Benefit Benetint lip balm – really like the hint of colour it gives!

  • P says:

Lush’s balms are great. Lots of lovely flavours (apple pie, anyone?), minus the petroleum and crap.

They’re hard to work though… gotta scratch a little off with the back of a nail and melt it between my fingers before applying!

  • Caz says:

mmmm…lipbalm…i have sooooo many but haven’t got one that actually works decently. I do have an amwful bad habit of picking the skin on my lips when my hands have nothing else to do so they are continually in a state. Want to get me some EA 8 hour stuff, but jsut a question do people use the 8 hour lipbalm or the actual 8 hour creme and just lash it on their lips?
Also where is yes to carrots available that you all speak so highly of?

  • asha says:

Does anyone know where to get the Yes to Carrots lip balm in Waterford?

  • Hannah says:

My friend got hooked on carmex and got really dry lips because she was over using it. But it wasnt like the normal dry lips ,it was kinda different! its was funny tho coz she had 2 stop using it!

  • Beaut babe says:

Chap- ice… you wont get better than this..hard to get tho!!

  • Mise says:

asha, is there Shaws in Waterford? I know my local store (Limerick) stock the yes to carrots range.

  • Kayleia says:

I have about, 4 or 5 on the go. It’s become an on running joke with my friends and I always get them for Christmas! I use No7 Protection lip cream which is fantastic for chapped lips, Lipsmacker Starburst flavour just for fun, Cath Kidston Lavender which makes your lips really nice and soft, Soap and Glory lipgloss to pump them up and finally, the cheapest and my favourite one of all – Vaseline’s Rose tinted. It’s wonderful! Smells great, looks gorgeous on and keeps your lips glossy for ages!

  • kj says:

I am totally addicted to chapstick too, and I’ve found that Burt’s Bees works the best because it is all-natural and chemical free, so it doesn’t leave your lips feeling dry just momentarily after applying it. But it is kind of expensive too, so now I buy it online in bulk (a true chapstick addict), at greencupboards.
