Irish made. Seaweed packed. Yummy extra ingredients like neroil and apricot. Yeah, all those things float my boat alright, and I know Aphrodite is a fan of skincare made from the vegetable of the deep too - she swears by Seavite’s moisturiser, a luxurious skin treat packed full of the healing powers of the sea.
Green Angel prove that they’re firmly on-trend so, with their 33-strong range that spans skin, body and spa products, all of which contain seaweed extracts and essential oils. Choose from cleansers, moisturisers, toners, scrubs and massage oils. Slather on hand and foot cream or lather up with shower gel - this range is meehhaaassive. If they start making seaweed foundations, the competition will be snookered.
So, why seaweed? It’s naturally moisturising, full of nutrients and kind to sensitive skins, making it a great choice for those who react to traditional skincare. My facial pick is the Seaweed and Collagen cream, €28, which I can imagine is lovely and nourishing on dry, slightly older skin types. I’ve tried the Seaweed Hand Cream with Vitamin E & Neroli, €23. Light and easily absorbed, it’s strongly scented with lavender and leaves skin soft and conditioned. Great for use pre-bed.
Such thought has been put into the type and variety of products in the range, that to my mind only one thing lets it down - and in real terms, it’s the least important thing - the packaging. More a criticism of superficial me than the brand, for sure - but I don’t think I’m alone in wanting fab-looking products adorning my bathroom surfaces.
What do you all think, though? Is that a completely mad way to look at a good, honest product range, or do you share my packaging-related feelings?

Well if you’re mad, then I am too. I love packaging that is practical, but looks good too. I’m less likely to atually try a new product if I amn’t impressed by the packaging.
i actually quite like this packaging. but i think packaging is important cause if it looks cheap you don’t get that luxurious feeling when you use it!
My mother uses this she bought it from a rep and one of those retail shows in the RDS- She got the an eye gel too that was brillant!
i completly agree if a product looks cheap i ususally wont buy it. On a side note tho i have a tub of the scrub and it is fabulous
Yup i got the scrub too, its amazing!
Ah, that wouldn’t put me off - I think there’s far too much packaging with moisturisers and beauty products as it is.
Me too - and the hand cream, is gorgeous and smells lovely but I noticed that about the packaging too. The gold stuff on the lid comes off,and it looks a bit cheap. I think a white or silver lid might be a bit better?
Ems - I thought the gold looked a little tacky too and it defo looks like it’s the type that would flake.
Maybe silver…the packaging yesterday from the Cloon Keen brand was divine!
Call me shallow, but unless I had tried the products and loved the smell/texture etc (or it was recommended by you girls!), I don’t think I would be buying anything from their site - purely because the packaging is a bit dated…
I used the scrub think its good but the rest of the range i didnt fing anthin great
im not bothered by packaging at all as long as it does what it says on the tin.Sometimes im afraid of fancy packaging as im afraid that it wont be as good as if it say had a mediciny looking packaging, like it was scientific,if that makes sense. if some thing is girly and flowery and pretty, it can really put me off..
I’m afraid I agree - it looks very dated… I probably wouldn’t give this a second glance in a shop…
see, i didn’t think the packaging would put me off, and i don’t think it would once i know what a product is like, but i saw this in a pharmacy a few weeks ago and thought, hmm, whats that, looks a bit nasty, but is irish and has seaweed and is at a ’should be nice’ price point. Then i bought more yes to carrotts stuff.
also, love green but have no truck with angel malarkey so the name probably put me off a bit too. sure now i’ll try it.
Oh yes! I’ve tried the hand cream and I loved it. My hands were soft for a long time afterwards and it smells lovely.
I agree that the packaging is quite awful. Very dated.
I’m with you on the packaging - but if I like the stuff and loathe the container, I’ll decant it to another. Like the Muji ones, or old containers (properly cleaned etc.); with my own labels. I like a minimalist look, so that works well.
That gold lid would have to go. Mind you, the same’s true for Estee Lauder and some other classy brands due for an overhaul - last redesigned when, about 1980? The other thing might be to paint it - say, with a different colour of nail varnish.
On which: packaging for the bathroom with paper labels? L’Occitan, I’m looking at you here? Just paint on a coat of clear nail-varnish (the cheapest stuff!), and it’s waterproof.
I agree - shallow as it may be, the packaging of a product is important, especially if you are looking at shelling out around 30 yo yos, you like to feel that it is a bit of a luxury item.
I have tried some things from this range - the hand cream, the body scrub and the collagen night cream. Some of the products are nice - liked the handcream a lot - but I found the collagen cream too highly scented. It actually made my eyes water, which is not a good look. And I don’t have particularly sensitive skin or eyes.
I didn’t like the scrub at all - it was basically sea salt in scented oil, and it was more like and oil slick than a scrub. Dangerous too - I nearly broke my neck when I slipped on the oil slick in my shower tray. Not a fan at all.
Overall, the brand has a lot going for it, but the packaging and some of the formulas should be looked at.
Now wouldn’t it be great if they were reading this and repackaging the whole thing?
You lot are a bunch of picky bitches! I’m using a really dated, I mean retro-looking organic line that was reviewed here a while back - Lavera is the name. It’s fantastic. Well the face scrub and shaving cream were anyway :).
adonis - I don’t mind the lavera packaging actually, and also for the prices, which are at the supermarket/pharmacy level, it’s fair enough they’re not pushing out the boat too much.
I think Lavera looks nice!
Have to say the packaging does make it look like something out of my Granny’s press in her bathroom. Could certainly use some funking up. As for the product itself, I’ve never tried it but am a huge fan of seaweed and what it can do for the skin. (When at the beach I even rub the slimy stuff on my arms and legs, the other bathers think I am nuts I’m sure!) The Seaweed Baths in Enniscrone, Co. Sligo has been a favourite of mine since I was a child and with quite bad dry, rough skin like mine it makes the world of difference. So - yes, despite the packaging, I’ll try this!
Ok - on a totally unrelated yet related matter. Which of these is more dated?

She looks like David Bowie in the first one - I had to do a double take!
Is her shade of red bang on for A/W 08?
Kirstie, how does their seaweed & collagen cream compare with the Elemis one?
Hey I work for Green Angel and can’t believe the crap you are saying about the packaging.Dated?!Looks lovely in my bathroom thank you very much!
sorry aoibheann - it’s pretty frumpy!
I was given a demo on my hands of some of the Green Angel scrub at the Off The Rails fair last month and thought it did a fab job on my hands, followed by hand lotion .. in fact I’m sorry now that I didn’t buy the scrub .. I think at the time I just felt I had enough body scrub at home really .. but if it was specifically a scrub for the hands I should’ve snapped it up! it would smell a lot nicer than the good effective Lidl one that appears occasionally (and seems more aimed at men’s grubby paws) .. I remember yer man said it was a much better price there than it is in pharmacies but as yet I haven’t seen it (sighs) ah well
Aoibheann - lol. you get free, honest, customer feedback and you argue back… honestly!
I was looking for info on Green Angel because was thinking I’ll invest in the handcream, which I tried once and found superb and have wanted to buy, but frankly, now I’m a bit put off by that attitude and will look into l’occitane…
Ive tried the green angel products and to be quite honest im in shock at how preoccupied alot of you people are regarding the packaging. Nobody seems to have anything much to say about the products themselves. I tried the collagen cream and hand/body scrub and liked them both. I didnt find the packaging in anyway offensive…in fact it seems more legitimate to me that the company would spend more on the product itself rather than the packaging. Im quite fond of the retro look which alot of cosmetics companies are using nowadays. In fact the look is probably in trend if thats what concerns you. However if you are more worried about how the product ‘looks’ in your bathroom id stick to the brands that match your tiles.
