If you’ve never considered it, you might be blissfully unaware that everytime you stick your paws into your pot of moisturiser, you’re actually adding bacteria into the mix. Which you then slather on to your face. Yuck, isn’t it, plus you’ve got to wonder how much goodness is left by the end of the pot, or has it just descended into a bacteria soup?
Moving swiftly, on, this very topic has inspired today’s Rate It. I prefer a pump for preference – it keeps bacteria and air out, and helps the product retain its effectiveness till the very end. Likewise, squeezy tubes are that bit more hygenic too – but sure, this is all personal.
Lots of people don’t give a fig one way or another, so tell us, lads and lasses – what’s your poison? Pot, Tube or Pump?

I’ve never even thought about it like that – but I would have just cleansed before I moisturise, so hands & face should be sparkly clean. I use tubes because you can control how much comes out – my head is wrecked with the pump on my armani foundation, you can never pump ‘just a teeny bit’!
I prefer pumps! Although I agree with what Red said, sometimes you can pump too much in one go. Then again, sometimes tubes can ooze aswell. I hate pots but all my favourite moisturisers come in pots.
Mmmm, it is a question worth pondering.
Personally, I’m very ‘icky’ when it comes to germs – I never touch the rails on the bus, wash hands immediately after touching public doors or using lifts, always open the door of the loos or lift in work with tissue so as to avoid touching it. I started doing this a couple of years ago, and havn’t had a cold or flu since. The same goes with products – would be a big fan of tubes or pumps – they are so much more hygenic. But it’s true, some of the lovely ones are unfortunately in pots, so always have clean hands using them – or else scoop what I need out with a cotton bud.
You are not alone. I go through a huge amount of Matron spray when out and about!
i like tubes.. pumps pee me off cos there’s always loads you can’t get out
but as per red’s comment.. i’d cleanse before moisturising n it’s just me using the stuff, so i’d hope my stuff keeps clean enough even if it is in a pot
I must be a complete cheap skate, as my problem with pumps is the amount which you cannot get out and end up wasting and having to throw out. At least with jar, bacteria aside, you can manage to get at every last precious bit.Tubes are good, as my Mammy taught me econonmise and cut with scissors to get to the end of them!!! Thrifty but not ashamed
I do the same with the tubes Evanna – especially hand creams.
I must be a bit of a mucky pup as I don’t really mind if somethings in pots. At least you can get all of it out. Though I have to admit that I wasn’t too happy whenever I’ve used an eye cream in a pot because I was nervous of getting conjuctivitis. With regular moisteriser I don’t mind so much. But I much prefer pumps for body lotion as when your hands are wet it’s bloody hard to manipulate a bottle without it slipping out of your hands like a fish! It’s much easier to not have to touch the bottle at all except to pump a squirt out. And since it’s body lotion, you don’t care if too much comes out.
pump it!!!
I much prefer pots to pumps. I bought the Clarins Multi Activ day cream a while back and the pump stopped dispensing after only a couple of weeks. I’m sure it must still be half full and cosidering the price of it I intend on taking the scissors to it. I’m going to but the cream again but this time in the pot. As for the hygiene aspect, I always wash my hands before I apply anything anyway and I never leave the lid off. If there are still some germs lurking around I can live with it.
